Details

Explore the intersection of artistic practice with global commerce, climate change, and the architectural environment at the Artists-in-Dialogue event featuring Rina Banerjee, Georgina Baronian, and Igor Marjanović. Taking place at the Moody Center for the Arts in Houston, this interdisciplinary conversation will delve into the thematic focus and material practice of Banerjee's work, examining its relevance to global commerce, climate change, and the architectural environment. Rina Banerjee, a Kolkata-born artist based in New York City, creates sculptures, paintings, and drawings that address pressing issues of our time, such as the lasting effects of colonialism, identity, climate change, migration, and commerce in a globalized world. Her works have been exhibited at renowned museums and exhibitions worldwide. With a background in polymer engineering and an MFA from Yale School of Art, Banerjee brings a unique perspective to her art. Georgina Baronian, principal of clovisbaronian architectural practice, joins the conversation as an assistant professor at Rice University School of Architecture. Her work explores the interrelation between climate and aesthetics, challenging conventional notions of thermal comfort through a spatial, experiential, and aesthetic lens. With experience in Japan and internationally recognized achievements, Baronian adds valuable insights to the dialogue. Moderating the conversation is Igor Marjanović, the William Ward Watkin Dean of Rice Architecture. Marjanović's research focuses on the history of architectural pedagogy and practice, examining the role of drawings, exhibitions, and publications in shaping international architectural culture. His collaborative approach has resulted in acclaimed publications that bridge art, architecture, and culture in a globalized world. Don't miss this opportunity to engage with these accomplished individuals as they discuss the intersection of art, commerce, climate change, and the architectural environment. The event will take place on February 13, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM, with a conversation followed by a reception. Admission is free. Join us at the Moody Center for the Arts in Houston to be part of this important dialogue.
