Details

Explore the concept of a 'posthuman' body and its influence on contemporary artistic practice in a thought-provoking talk. Delve into the fascinating world of organic and nonorganic bodies through various artistic examples. This discussion will highlight the potential of hybrid corporealities to generate interdisciplinary reflections on art and ecology. From human and nonhuman beings to animals, plants, machines, and the Earth itself, discover how these entanglements can give rise to new spaces for exploration. Led by Sarah Blissett, an accomplished artist, researcher, and dramaturg specializing in the intersection of visual art and performance. Currently a lecturer in Drama at the University of Plymouth, Sarah's research focuses on site-responsive performances in intertidal areas. She also serves as a guest editor for an upcoming journal issue on 'Intertidal Encounters' for the Centre for Sustainable Practice in the Arts (CSPAQ 2024). Sarah is co-director of SOAK Live Art CIC, an initiative funded by Arts Council England that supports emerging performance artists in Plymouth. Notable projects include Alluvial Matters (2023), River Rememberings at Modern Art Oxford (2022), Marking Tidetime at Totally Thames Festival (2022), Kelp Curing at Lofoten International Art Festival (LIAF) (2019), and How Nature Builds at Modern Art Oxford (2019-22). Don't miss this captivating talk on posthuman bodies. Image credit: Sarah Blissett.
