And how did his Successors – generals and friends who had conquered that empire with him – create a new political reality? This talk explores how Alexander’s conquests catalysed the beginnings of the phenomenon of Hellenistic kingship, a distinctive model for autocratic rule developed by the Successors that was influential across global antiquity and beyond.
