Join the MIT List Visual Arts Center for the IAP Film Screening Series: Nevelson in Process, a documentary film by Susan Fanshel and Jill Godmilow. This screening, taking place on January 25, 2024, at the Bartos Theatre in Cambridge, MA, is part of the Met’s Museum extensive moving-image archive.
Nevelson in Process explores the life and work of Louise Nevelson, an artist renowned for her intricate and monumental sculptures crafted from discarded wood and scrap metal. In 1975, Nevelson's Transparent Horizon became the first Percent-for-Art commission at MIT, a notable initiative that dedicates a portion of the budget from each new building project or major renovation to the acquisition or creation of public art.
Before the film screening, attendees will have the opportunity to gain insights into Nevelson's artistic contributions and her connection to MIT's campus through a short presentation. This enriching event is part of the Independent Activities Period (IAP) at MIT, a special four-week term offering unique educational experiences.
Guests from outside the MIT community are welcome to attend this in-person screening and delve into the fascinating world of Louise Nevelson. Admission is free, making it accessible to all who wish to explore the profound impact of Nevelson's artistry. Join us at the Bartos Theatre in Cambridge for an engaging and enlightening experience.
