Starting in November, the 2025-2026 Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Ice and Snow Tourism Season, themed "Singing and Touring Inner Mongolia, Joyful Ice and Snow Season," officially kicked off. The event includes 159 activities, 45 routes, and 48 competitions, lasting five months until March 2026. A winter tourism extravaganza integrating ice and snow sports, folk culture, and trendy activities is unfolding, inviting tourists from all over the country to a passionate and romantic ice and snow adventure.
This ice and snow tourism season is unprecedented in scale and full of highlights. Inner Mongolia has planned and launched "3+13+143" diverse and distinctive ice and snow cultural tourism activities. Among them, three key activities at the autonomous region level include: the launch ceremony of the ice and snow tourism season in Genhe City, known as "China's Cold Pole"; the 22nd China·Manzhouli China-Russia-Mongolia International Ice and Snow Festival, which provides a platform for cultural exchange and industrial cooperation among China, Russia, and Mongolia, showcasing the charm of the open border port; and the opening of the 21st Inner Mongolia Ice and Snow Nadam Fair in Hailar District, Hulunbuir City, creating a grand winter carnival and igniting a winter tourism boom.
Meanwhile, each league and city, based on its local characteristics, launched 13 key league and city-level activities with distinct themes. Hohhot's "Igniting Winter in Northern Xinjiang, Myriad Aspects of Hohhot" series of activities integrates ice and snow light and shadow with cultural and trendy activities; Baotou's "Yellow River Ice Viewing Season" allows tourists to appreciate the magnificent spectacle of Yellow River ice formations; the Arxan Ice and Snow Festival in Hinggan League focuses on the winter experience of hot springs and rime ice; and Chifeng City will host high-level events such as the FIS Snowboard World Cup Merlin Station, showcasing the boundless vitality of "ice and snow + sports". In addition, the Xilingol Winter Mongolian Horse Super League, the Ulanqab volcanic ice and snow "Song of Ice and Fire," and the Alxa League Shenzhou-21 manned spacecraft launch winter viewing event, together create a vibrant winter tourism map of Inner Mongolia.

Dazhao Temple is the most important royal temple in Hohhot and Inner Mongolia, and a must-see scenic spot when visiting Hohhot. The entire temple is magnificent and worth spending half a day visiting. The nearby Sai Shang Old Street is also worth a visit. The only downside is that it gets very crowded with tourists during the summer vacation.

This Ming Dynasty building, rich in cultural, historical, and verve, lies across from the Jokhang Temple and bordered by Shaomai Street. It embodies a rich tapestry of history and religious heritage. Walking quietly here, one hears the stirrings of history. Emperor Kangxi himself once stayed here temporarily, and the area has witnessed different people and events throughout history. Despite its somewhat remote location, Yili Health Valley boasts a wealth of activities. During the National Day holiday, there were many interactive games and additional guided tours. The scenic area primarily features two areas: powdered milk and liquid milk. Guided tours offer a detailed understanding of the entire powdered milk or milk processing process. The well-designed circulation and affordable admission make it a worthwhile trip.

I was a little disappointed after taking bus 92 to the Chulechuan Grassland stop. There was no grassland, just a desolate meadow with very short, dry grass. In the distance, I saw a building that looked like a yurt, went inside for a quick look, took a photo with a sculpture of a Mongolian beauty, and then came out via a road near the mountains. There was a bus stop for bus 115 by the roadside. After waiting a while, the bus arrived (it came from the Red Education Base), and I rode for two stops before finally reaching the core scenic area! It was breathtaking! Grasslands, towering green mountains, and babbling rivers were all within easy reach, a truly beautiful sight. The only downside was that I didn&#39;t see any horses or sheep. For the return trip, I first took bus 115 to the Red Education Base, then transferred to bus 92. Bus 115 is a suburban bus, running approximately every hour, so be mindful of your travel time. No entrance fee is required.

Encountering Saishang Old Street and Immersing in the Ancient Charm

Stepping onto Saishang Old Street, I felt like I was plunging into the embrace of bygone times. The bluestone pavement beneath my feet, polished smooth by time, felt like a dialogue with history with every step.

The quaint shops lining the street resembled mysterious treasure boxes. As I wandered through them, my gaze was captivated by the exquisite handicrafts. The vibrantly colored paper-cuts and delicate, vivid leather carvings all left me marveling at the masterful craftsmanship of the folk artists.

The air was filled with the aroma of delicious food. A bite of grilled lamb skewers, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of spice, instantly ignited my taste buds.

Standing in the center of the old street, I watched the bustling crowds&mdash;tourists like me, their faces filled with curiosity, and locals, leisurely and content. Here, tradition and modernity intertwine in perfect harmony.

Saishang Old Street is more than just a street; it&#39;s a living history book, documenting the city&#39;s past and transformation. I was intoxicated by this ancient charm and modern style and was reluctant to leave. This unique experience will always remain deep in my memory and become a precious treasure.
