Join the Intro to Zine-making and Bookbinding event at The Soapbox: Community Print Shop & Zine Library in West Philadelphia. This workshop is perfect for those who have a story to share, information to disseminate, or artwork and poems to showcase. No prior experience is necessary! Zines are a fantastic medium for expressing your ideas to your community, and together, we will create your very own zine. The class will focus on crafting a zine based on your concept, covering the process of zine-making and small bookbinding techniques. Throughout the workshop, you will learn how to create three different styles of zines and two bookbinding styles. By the end of the class, you will have a completed zine, as well as several blank zines and small books. Additionally, you will gain knowledge on how to produce more copies. A $10 materials fee, which includes all necessary supplies and equipment usage, is required. Please note that in accordance with our safety protocols, all visitors to The Soapbox are required to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status. The instructor, Bread Tarleton, is an esteemed cartoonist and zine-maker based in Philadelphia. They have taught Zine-making and Comics Publication courses at The Center for Cartoon Studies, where they also earned their MFA in Cartooning. Currently, Bread is a fellow at The Soapbox Community Print Shop and serves as the book editor at A.B.O. Comix, a publisher that amplifies the voices of Incarcerated LGBTQ+ individuals. Look out for their upcoming book, Soften the Blow, set to be released by Fieldmouse Press in 2023. The cost of the event is $40 for current Soapbox Members and $45 for Non-Members, plus a $10 materials fee covering paper, thread, and equipment usage. Philadelphia was once the capital of the United States, so there is plenty of history, museums, monuments, and sites around the city. The Philadelphia Museum of Art boasts a nice array of exhibits. I visited on a Friday evening after work because museum admission is free Friday evenings (pay what you wish). I did pay for parking at their garage, which was only $5.

I feel that the attractions in downtown Philadelphia are really excellent. The historic sites near the Liberty Bell are under the unified management of National Park. Opposite the Liberty Bell is a large visitor center where you can consult Philadelphia&#39;s travel guide. The staff and volunteers here are also very enthusiastic to help give travel advice and answer consultation questions. There is also a small souvenir shop here, where you can buy refrigerator magnets, notebooks, postcards and other related Philadelphia souvenirs.

There are also exhibition explanations in the visitor center. Although it is relatively miniature compared to the museum, it still does not affect the number of tourists here. If you come by car, there is a parking lot in the basement of the Independence Hall Visitor Center for everyone to park. Although parking in the city center of Philadelphia is not very convenient and parking spaces are not easy to find, it is recommended that everyone park in the underground parking lot of the visitor center. If you come during the peak season, you need to apply for the ticket to the Independence Hall at the visitor center first, but I don&rsquo;t know if it is because of the epidemic. You don&rsquo;t need to take a ticket when you come, you can go directly to visit.
