Details

Kentucky Arts & Letters Day 2023 invites you to a memorable day filled with fellowship, art, food, and captivating readings by renowned writers from Kentucky. This year, the event will be held at The Locker, located at 244 South Main Street in New Castle on November 11, 2023. Immerse yourself in the literary brilliance of esteemed authors such as Wendell Berry, Tanya Berry, Maurice Manning, Frank X. Walker, Gray Zeitz, George Ella Lyon, Crystal Wilkinson, Robert Gipe, Ron Davis AKA Upfromsumdirt, Erik Reece, Bernard Clay, and Trina Pfeiffer. Due to limited availability, it is advisable to secure your seat well in advance. Tickets are required to attend the readings, but the bookstore, Clifford Amyx gallery show, Larkspur Press table, October Press table, and book signing are open to the public. While indulging in this literary feast, you can also relish a delightful lunch at The New Castle Tavern or savor the flavors from the Longshot Lobsta food truck. This year's Kentucky Arts & Letters Day will be particularly special as we celebrate the culmination of our community reading of James Still's masterpiece, "River of Earth," and engage in thoughtful discussions around its profound themes. Furthermore, we will showcase the stunning work of former University of Kentucky art professor Clifford Amyx (1909-1997) in The Berry Center gallery. Both Mr. Still and Professor Amyx hailed from Eastern Kentucky, specifically McKee and Hindman, and were deeply inspired by the captivating landscape and remarkable people of Jackson and Knott Counties. The Berry Center, committed to the well-being of our attendees, reserves the right to transition this event to an online platform if deemed necessary by our experienced staff and local health professionals. Free parking is available along Main Street, within the expansive parking lot behind The Berry Center. For a detailed schedule of the day's events, kindly refer to the information below.
