Introduction to Photography | Midwest Photo Learning Studio

New to photography or want to get started in the craft? Join photographer Sara Leikin as she dives into basic practices you need to know! Photo 101: Introduction to Photography Instructor: Dr. Sara Leikin Photo 101 is the first class in our three-part Introduction to Photography series and is designed for beginners or anyone looking to build a stronger foundation. Whether you’ve never touched a camera or are just starting to explore photography, this class will help you understand the essentials and get you thinking like a photographer. Led by photographer and educator Dr. Sara Leikin, this session focuses on the “why” behind photography, how images work, how photographers see the world, and how light, composition, and storytelling come together. The emphasis is on understanding concepts first, so you feel confident when you pick up a camera later. In this class, you’ll learn: What photography is and how it communicates ideas Composition basics for stronger, more intentional images How to “see” light and understand its impact on a photo The exposure triangle and how the pieces fit together An overview of camera types and lenses How to think creatively and make photos—even without a camera About the Instructor Dr. Sara Leikin is a photographer, educator, and lifelong storyteller who fell in love with photography as a way to slow down and really see the world. She’s especially drawn to travel photography, night-scapes, and the small details that tell a bigger story. With a background in education, Sara loves helping photographers at all levels build confidence, understand the why behind their camera settings, and discover their own visual voice. You can explore her work at saraleikinphotography.com . What to bring: No camera required Just yourself and something to take notes with This class sets the stage for the entire series, welcoming, approachable, and designed to give you a solid foundation before moving on to hands-on shooting and editing. Ride of Silence Columbus 2026 | Our Lady of Peace School
40 East Dominion Boulevard, Columbus, OH 43214

Ride of Silence Columbus 2026 | Our Lady of Peace School

This international ride honors cyclists killed or injured on public roadways, and raises awareness of cyclists' right to the road. This is the 24th year for the Ride of Silence. This year, we will be reading the names of the cyclists who were killed on Ohio roads in 2025 along with names submitted by registered riders who were killed in any year. With this annual ride—a short, slow and silent processional —hundreds of Central Ohio cyclists join an international movement to honor cyclists killed or injured while riding on public roadways and raise awareness that cyclists have a legal right to the road. The ride is a short, slow and silent funeral-style processional that attracts hundreds of cyclists from all corners of our community. The route for 2026 will be 10-12 miles in length. All riders will stay together, two abreast and completely silent during the ride. We are required to get a parade permit from the City of Columbus and to have police escorts which allow us to stay together through traffic lights. Helmets are required! Johnny Velo Bikes will have a mechanic on site should you need any last minute assistance with your bike. But, please make sure to look it over a few days prior to the ride to ensure it's in good working order. Riders will begin gathering at 6:00 pm. There will be a short program including a reading of the names at 6:30 pm. The ride will roll at 7:00 p.m. It's a 10-12 mile route that should take a little over an hour to complete. There is no cost to participate, but we do ask you to register for safety and planning purposes. Special thanks to our sponsors Burgess & Niple and Don Supelak! These sponsorships help us cover the cost of the police escorts and parade permit. We appreciate their support of this event. Donations are greatly appreciated! Costs for this event, including rider insurance, parade permit and police escorts, are approximately $3,000. All donations will be used exclusively for the current and future Ride of Silence events in Columbus. We encourage you to ride to the event, but if you're driving, parking will be available at the school and on surrounding side streets and parking lots. Information Source: Yay Bikes! | eventbrite
