These films explore themes of abandonment, decay, and transformation—perfectly aligning with this year’s theme, ‘VACANC(IT)Y.’ Free admission for all! The Great Beauty follows Jep Gambardella, a jaded writer and socialite in Rome, as he reflects on his life and the fleeting nature of beauty. Wandering through the city, Jep encounters various empty and decaying historical sites that evoke a sense of nostalgia and loss amidst Rome's opulence and grandeur. Spirited Away follows a young girl named Chihiro who, while moving to a new neighborhood, stumbles upon an abandoned amusement park. She finds herself in a magical world inhabited by spirits and gods, where she must navigate the eerie, empty spaces and work in a bathhouse to save her parents and return to the human world.
