Join the Reduction Woodcut (Hand Printing) course in Sheffield City Centre at Carousel Print Studio, Exchange Place Studios. Led by Sheffield artist and printmaker Helen Darlington, this one-day course offers an opportunity to learn the traditional process of reduction woodcut printmaking. In this low-tech and tactile workshop, participants will use specialist hand tools to carve a multi-layered image from a single piece of Japanese plywood. Helen will guide you through the carving, inking, and printing process, allowing you to create your own unique series of prints.

Suitable for beginners and those with some printing experience, this workshop incorporates techniques from Japanese hand printing. By building up subtle layers of color, participants will learn how to create soft tones and shaded areas in their prints. All materials and equipment will be provided, but please bring your own ideas or imagery to draw from or trace. If possible, bring your image printed out at roughly A6 size (10 cm x 15 cm). It is advised to wear old clothes as printing can get messy, although aprons will be provided. Teas, coffee, and biscuits will also be available, but you may wish to bring a packed lunch.

Carousel Print Studio is a not-for-profit charity located on the ground floor of Yorkshire Art Space, Exchange Place Studios. Their well-equipped and accessible printmaking studio offers educational workshops and opportunities for creatives in Sheffield.
