The San Diego PoetrySLAM happens on the 2nd Monday of every month Is a slam the same as an open mic? Not exactly. A slam is a competition with judges What is a Qualifier? Qualifiers are 2 round slam competitions and the top competitors will earn points towards the Grand Slam Finals. What is the point system? 1st place = 4 points, 2nd place = 3 points, 3rd place = 2 points, 4th place = 1 point How many Qualifiers are there? There will be 4 qualifiers (August, September, October, November). The top 8 competitors will compete in the Grand Slam in December  Where do I sign up? If you're interested in signing up, you have to line up on the south side of the door. Audience members line up on the north side. How do I sign up for the slam? 1 slot reserved for slam alumni. The next 6 slots will be 1st come 1st serve and we will have a lottery for the last 3 slots. What time should I get there to sign up? The earlier you get there, the more likely you are to get a slot.
