Smart City Cycling 2: Maneuvering is a bike-handling class that focuses on equipping participants with the necessary skills to safely navigate city traffic. This on-bike course is the second installment in the Smart City Cycling series, following Smart City Cycling 1: Classroom or Intro to Biking in SF. Please note that completion of the prerequisite course is mandatory to enroll in this class. To register for Smart City Cycling 1, visit sfbike.org/edu. During this training, participants will learn crucial techniques such as riding with one hand for signaling, scanning over their shoulder while maintaining a straight line, and crash-avoidance maneuvers. The class takes place in a car-free space to ensure a safe learning environment. Upon successful completion of Smart City Cycling 2, participants will be well-prepared for Smart City Cycling 3: Road Practice, where they will have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired skills on actual streets. It is important for all attendees to have their own bicycles or make arrangements to rent one in advance, as no bike rentals will be available on-site. Please note that the SFMTA's Bicycle Safety Education program, in partnership with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, presents this class. Funding for this program is made possible by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority through a grant of Proposition K Local Transportation Sales Tax Funds.
