Starting Points is a monthly open mic series held in Oakland that aims to showcase the talent of emerging and diverse poets and writers. This community event takes place at the Summer Bar & Lounge, located at 526 8th St, Oakland, CA 94607. Our goal is to provide a platform for voices from the Bay Area's literary scene, with a particular focus on highlighting the work of queer and BIPOC writers.

Each event features two distinguished readers who represent a range of voices within the literary community. Additionally, we make it a point to showcase new and emerging talent by giving at least one writer the opportunity to take center stage. We also offer 10 open mic slots for attendees to sign up for on the day of the event. It's worth noting that we often invite our open mic performers to return as featured readers, allowing us to continuously celebrate new voices.

Starting Points Monthly Open Mic is scheduled for October 1, 2023, and admission is free. We encourage anyone interested in the literary arts to join us for an evening of engaging readings and captivating performances.
