Details

Each year a leading figure provides a new perspective on T.S. Eliot in our Annual Lecture. This year, Richard Harries will talk on 'Eliot, Auden and the enjoyment of life'. Richard Harries is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and the author of more than 30 books on the interface of Christian faith with literature, the visual arts, politics and ethics. Among them is Haunted by Christ: modern writers and the struggle for faith, in which he has chapters on both Eliot and Auden. His new book is Wounded I sing: Advent to Christmas with George Herbert. After a ministry as parish priest, theological lecturer and Dean of Kings College, London he was Bishop of Oxford from 1987 to 2006. On his retirement he was made a life peer as Lord Harries of Pentregarth and sits on the corrbenches where he remains active in the House of Lords. For more than fifty years he has been a regular contributor to Thought for the Day on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme. The Lecture will be followed by a drinks reception. Information Source: T.S.
