The University of Chicago is hosting a special workshop called "The Art of Participation: Committee of Six and Collaborative Process" for UChicago students. This workshop aims to explore the development of collaborative arts projects. The Committee of Six is a group that reenacts meetings from 1955, which played a significant role in redlining policies that impacted the social and physical landscape of Hyde Park, Kenwood, Woodlawn, and surrounding areas. This workshop will include a screening of the film documenting the collaborative process behind the Committee of Six project. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from the director/creator Fred Schmidt-Arenales and creative producer/performer Ellenor Riley-Condit about their goals and strategies for the project. Additionally, participants will engage in self-reflective prompts to consider how they can apply similar strategies to their own collaborative projects. The workshop will take place on November 3 at 7pm at the Green Line Performing Arts Center. This event is presented by Arts + Public Life and the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture, with support from UChicago Careers in the Arts. Lunch will be provided, and attendees can also join the filmmakers and cast for a public discussion after the workshop.
