The Great Train Tapestry Open Access sessions are an opportunity for individuals to contribute their stories to an extraordinary collaborative project. Organized by Hundred Heroines, this project aims to create a contemporary tapestry that explores various themes such as women, trains, transport, borders, and labor. Led by renowned artist Lisl Ponger, a series of workshops have already taken place, and now the tapestry is entering the making stage. Participants can take part in these open access sessions, where they will receive materials and support to contribute to the final product. The tapestry will consist of over 70 A4 sized panels, which will be created using sublimation print, batik, and applique techniques. Even if you are not skilled in stitching, you can still contribute by using Canon equipment to create photographs or by utilizing a scanner bed to produce images similar to Lisl's unique style. Additionally, an image bank from walks and visits to the steam museum is available for those who have a passion for textiles but not photography. The aim is to start stitching the panels together in January, so it is the perfect time to join this captivating storytelling tapestry. The Great Train Tapestry Open Access sessions will be held in Gloucester at Heroines Quarter, specifically at 1-3 The Promenade The Eastgate Shopping Centre, Gloucester, GL1 1AG, on December 3, 2023. Admission is free.
