The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore is pleased to offer virtual tours specifically designed for K-12 students. These engaging tours provide an opportunity for students to explore the extensive collection of artwork at the Walters and participate in meaningful discussions about art. Led by knowledgeable staff educators, the virtual tours offer an in-depth, close-looking experience at artworks in the collection, including some that are not currently on view in the galleries.

During the 60-minute tours, students will actively participate in discussion-based sessions that incorporate interactive elements and activities. The tours revolve around the central idea that "Art is Conversation," which is a key aspect of the museum's Visitor Promise. To ensure the best possible conversation experience, classes of up to 25 students can be accommodated. It is recommended that each student has a personal device to join from.

The virtual tours feature two distinct discussion themes. The "Art is Conversation: Ancient Cultures" theme is suitable for students in grades 2-12. The tour explores 3-4 objects from ancient times that represent various cultures, including Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Americas, and Asia. Students will engage in thought-provoking conversations that draw connections between ancient objects and their relevance to our lives today.

The second theme, "Art is Conversation: Stories in Art," is recommended for students in grades K-12. This tour explores 3-4 objects chosen from the diverse Walters collection, all centered around the theme of storytelling. Students will delve into the histories and stories reflected in these objects, analyze storytelling components such as characters and setting, and make connections to their own personal experiences.
