Witch’s Ladder with Abject Bodies Dates: Sun Sept 29th 2024 and Tues Oct1st 2024 Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00pm (Sun) and 10:00 AM-12:00pm (Tues) Location: Saltspace Gallery Accessibility: It is on the 2nd Floor with no working lift. There are 2 toilets on the 2nd floor, with no accessible toilet or gender neutral toilet or changing tables. Join artists: Maya El Nahal and Ames Truscott for an immersive experience at the Witch’s Ladder with Abject Bodies event. Create a talisman to hang in your home to protect you from and challenge patriarchy. As well as help create a large-scale communal Witch’s Ladder to be part of a future exhibition. The tradition of Witch’s Ladders stems from a single find in an old woman’s attic, it was declared a witch tool by the man who found and tried to exhibit it. He claimed it was used to steal and dry up milk production. The witch’s ladder and knot magic has since become part of Pagan tradition. We wanted to reimagine this practice from a queer perspective, what could the spell be in the hands of those who would use its magic to create community and healing, or to protect from systems that divide, denigrate, and destroy. Please bring items you would love to weave into your own Witch’s Ladder, such as feathers, dried plants, old photographs or clothing, anything! Look forward to seeing you there.
