Discover the Workshop: On Painting and Poetry, an immersive experience that combines the worlds of visual art and literary expression. Taking place on Thursday, January 18, at the prestigious Manchester Poetry Library, this event promises to be a creative and inspiring gathering. Join us at the Grosvenor East Building of Manchester Metropolitan University, located on Cavendish Street Off All Saints Park, Oxford Road.

Led by acclaimed artist Gregory O'Brien, this workshop/seminar will delve into the intriguing relationship between visual images and text. Breaking free from traditional notions of 'illustration,' participants will explore how these elements interact and influence one another. O'Brien will showcase his own work and draw inspiration from notable examples in New Zealand's art and literary history.

From 'illuminated manuscripts' to 'concrete poems,' this workshop will explore the diverse word/image relationships that can be forged. Discover the fascinating interplay between art and literature in gallery installations, artist books, and trade editions. Attendees are encouraged to bring along their own published or handcrafted work, fostering a collaborative and enriching environment.

As a special treat, all participants will receive a complimentary copy of PNR. With only 15 places available, be sure to secure your spot to avoid missing out on this captivating event.

For further insights and background, Gregory O'Brien recommends reading his works, including Interactions I - V, PN Review 250-254 (2020-21); Miserere MItimiti (Ralph Hotere's work with New Zealand poets), PN Review 126 (1999); A short history of the poem in New Zealand painting, PN Review 152 (2003); and Of magpie music, faded things and the desert music, PN Review 159 (2004).
