5-Star Hotels in Sabah, Malaysia

I expected a great hotel stay and they delivered. All the staff were lovely. Thank you for that. My only issue is the lack of room information regarding what is available in the hotel. Normally I would expect marketing information and menus for restarunt and bar in the room. The TV does give room service menu but was not required. Fortunately we found Ben, the Concierge in the lobby who very kindly explained what we asked, and provided a map for the area. Very welcome. Thank you very much.

Upon check-in, the staff were very helpful, friendly, and accommodating. I requested twin beds for both rooms, and Mr. Matthew at the reception assisted me with my booking. Initially, both of the rooms was assigned in an area under construction. He informed us that there might be noise coming from the Tanjung Wing. However, we didn’t hear any noise during our stay—maybe because we were always outside enjoying the beach view. 😊 He also gave us complimentary breakfast for 2 days. Since we were 5 people, I expected to pay for one person’s breakfast, but he kindly included it for free. On top of that, he arranged an extra bed for one of the room. Matthew was truly accommodating and helpful—thank you, Matthew! 👍 The food was delicious (“masarap”), and all the staff were very friendly and nice. I especially enjoyed the sunset. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to try the sunset bar since reservations are required a day in advance, and it starts at 6 PM with a dress code. The amenities were excellent—kids will definitely enjoy them. Everything is conveniently located inside the property, including a movie theater, game area, kids’ club, and even an ice cream bar. 🍦☀️🎬☺️🥰

Facilities: The hotel is very new and the bathroom is quite spacious, with a bathtub. Cleanliness: I didn't see anything unclean; housekeeping cleaned every day. Service: Everything was excellent. My friend's foot got chafed by her shoes, and the staff lent us ointment and bandages. Environment: The window offered views of KK Waterfront and Gaya Street. The fried noodles at the restaurant opposite the hotel were delicious.

This is more then a five stars hotel service in Sabah every staff here is very very nice and welcoming guests i really want to thanks the front desk lady Grace and the other guy they are very very helpful to give me a very good hospitality I feel here is just like my second home and definitely come back with family and friend to enjoy the time here and I blessings all teams will have a good future! Love them all many thanks and my love from Hong Kong will miss this place , also the coconut here is very very good u must try

Facilities: The facilities are a bit old, but that's to be expected given the age of the hotel. Hygiene: The hygiene is very good. Environment: The room is spacious enough for two adults and two children. Service: The service was very enthusiastic. Booked through Ctrip, and the hotel didn't charge an extra deposit!!! We had a great time playing! Definitely go with a tour group – my broken English made things really difficult!

The staff friendliness is just amzing 10/10. Excellent Service.Our room had amazing view of the sea and opposite resort called Gayana. Dinner: Only Buffet option is available and its about RM167/person +taxes. The spread are fairly good and it is delicious. Though they do have 2 more different Restaurant in the island,Japanese and fine dining. Breakfast: Included in the room price. Menu changes daily. I have nothing to complaint about the room,for us its comfortable.All rooms have exactly the dane Designs the only difference is where it is located. You are paying for the view. Activities: For me I think 3 days 2 nights are perfect to spend your time here, swimming by the pool,kayaking,snorkling,Jungle trekking, visiting the private beach. 1 hour complimentary use of snorklinh masks. I like the public guests showers and towel provided.Very convinient. One thing that I would like to comment is the boat fees are relatively very expansive.15 mins speedboat per person one way cost about Rm80+taxes..Just return trip cost RM170++ per person. This is not even including island conservation fees and tourist fees. All this added fees makes the Hotel cost more expansive. Because a boat trip to nearby or same Island cost only Rm40. GAYANA ECO RESORT provided inclusive/complimentary return boat fees. I hope the Management can improve this because we as Guests are going to spend more money on F&B and at the Bar. Last but not least I would like to compliment the service and staffs in thsi Resort I think they did such an amazing job. Overalö the Resort is beautiful andclose to the nature.

I usually don't write reviews, but this time I have to praise the Kota Kinabalu Marriott. Even before checking in, I received an email from Adrian who was very attentive to our flight details and special requests, offering great convenience. The room was really nice, though I forgot to take a picture of my favorite vanity mirror and the solid wood sliding door separating the spaces. The room decor felt very high-quality, clean, and comfortable. I'd seen mixed reviews on Xiaohongshu before my stay, but I ended up loving it myself – it truly exceeded my expectations. Breakfast was from 7-11 AM, so as a late riser, I practically turned it into brunch. Plus, the restaurant view was absolutely stunning, as shown in the picture. Every time we took a taxi back to the hotel, a concierge would quickly come to open the door and greet us, which was a nice touch 👍. I didn't get to use the gym or the pool 🏊‍♀️, but the rooftop bar had good prices and decent drinks 👍. #HotelAesthetic #HotelLover Any downsides are pretty objective, but no hotel in Kota Kinabalu can escape the airplane noise ✈️, given how small the city is. For those staying at the Marriott, I'd recommend eating out at Gaya Street (about 10 RMB by taxi) at Chinese restaurants, etc. I wouldn't recommend the night market to the right of the hotel entrance (it's a Malaysian gathering spot).

The room was clean and decorated in a simple yet elegant style, with a touch of British charm. You could tell it's an older building with some history. The room facilities were a bit dated, and the air conditioning was quite noisy. There were many Korean guests, and the breakfast had some local characteristics, leaning towards a Korean style.

Service: Absolutely fantastic! They provide complimentary waterproof phone pouches, raincoats, eye masks, and other little essentials. Plus, there are free iced drinks and, best of all, free laundry service – perfect for a trip to Sabah! The laundry is super fast too, and the housekeeper is very responsive to guests' needs. Facilities: Not great, actually. The space is small, and the apartment design has some issues. The shower stall has a tiny bathtub that's neither comfortable for a bath nor spacious enough for a shower. And the sink is a nightmare – water splashes everywhere the moment you wash your hands, so it feels like you're washing your hands and feet at the same time. Environment: It's an apartment within the Imago mall. Plane noise is quite noticeable, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're a light sleeper. Since everyone takes taxis around here, convenience of transportation isn't really an issue. There's also a fish noodle restaurant in the mall that wasn't very good. Cleanliness: Good. It was clean and tidy, with no visible stains.

The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic – super convenient for getting to the pier, the beach, and for shopping. The Dawn Plaza right opposite is a huge plus. The sea view room offers an expansive view, and there's a balcony, even if the view is a bit obstructed. The hotel's design is well-thought-out, and the facilities are user-friendly and comfortable. There's a QR code on the hotel phone that you can scan for a Chinese service menu. The bathroom counter is spacious enough, and the infinity pool boasts a truly stunning view. All the service staff are very professional. The breakfast seating is well-organized, and the à la carte dishes at breakfast really speak to the quality.
