4-Star Hotels in Akita Prefecture, Japan

Service: The service was impeccable. We booked a one-night stay with two meals, and the hotel staff were already waiting for us at the station to pick us up. Because we arrived late, they even held our dinner reservation for us! Our train was cancelled the next day, and the hotel staff patiently explained how to take the bus and provided a timetable. They even drove us to the bus station – the service was excellent, and all of this was free! Cleanliness: Very clean. Environment: The hotel is next to a beautiful, pristine forest! The hot spring environment and water quality are top-notch, perfect for honeymooning couples! The tap water is drinkable and tastes incredibly sweet! Service: The service was the best I've ever experienced at a hotel.

The hotel is located on a mountain. In late April, the cherry blossoms at the foot of the mountain were in full bloom, but there was still some snow around the hotel. Lake Tazawa in spring, especially on a sunny day, is absolutely stunning; the water is a deep blue, just like the sea. We had great weather during our stay. Every morning after breakfast, we'd take the hotel's shuttle bus to Tazawa-ko Station to catch the Komachi Shinkansen to Kakunodate, Akita, and Morioka to see the cherry blossoms. In the afternoons, we'd take the Shinkansen back to Tazawa-ko Station, then the shuttle back to the hotel for dinner and a hot spring bath. The hotel service was excellent, and considering the price, the food was quite good too!

An absolute gem! The views stunning, and food is exquisite. The rooms are all recently renovated with wood and in a minimalist style. The hotel had a faint fragrance of cedar? Our rooms each had ocean-facing private baths and panoramic sunset views. I feel so recharged and replenished. The setting is remote but actually not that hard to get to given Japan’s excellent transportation system. It’s 3.8 hours from Tokyo to Akita and then a lovely 50 minutes local train ride to Oga. The ryokan will pick you up. (We opted to book a local shuttle bus as we were seven people with luggage and opted to stop at the Namahage museum beforehand to learn about local lore.) The hotel has a really fun aquarium nearby which kids loved—polar bears, penguins are the main attractions but we also enjoyed the jellyfish and deep sea local fish exhibits. Highly, highly recommend staying here. The staff was incredibly helpful and gracious. Teisui is in on my list as a place to revisit.

Great hotel, very conveniently located next to the JR station. Amenities are complete, plenty of places to grab somwthing to eat as well. Wish I had more time to sightsee around the city, but I left early to go to Kakunodate. Maybe next time. The room got too hot, but I only found out im the morning there's a panel where you can adjust the temperature. The north wing room is nice, but you have to walk to the main building for breakfast and the train station. Breakfast was good, plenty of local selecrion, but many of the dishes had pork and I couldn't eat. They had plenty of salad and sweets available. Their scrambled egg is also nice.

We stayed for three nights, including breakfast and dinner, and it definitely lived up to the hype for its food and scenery. While the hotel facilities are pretty standard, the environment is absolutely exceptional. It's only tens of meters from Lake Towada, surrounded by lush green spaces, big trees, and the lake itself – the beauty from this distance is captivating. Both meals and the shuttle bus need to be booked in advance. The schedule was: 7:30 AM breakfast, 9:30 AM departure, 4:00 PM return, 5:00 PM dinner, 6:30 PM evening walk, 8:30 PM hot springs, and 10:30 PM deep sleep. Day one poured rain, day two was spent in Yasumiya, taking a boat cruise, and visiting Towada Shrine. Day three was a 10km hike along the Oirase Stream followed by a final goodbye to Yasumiya. Day four was departure. A perfect experience overall! If I had to point out one minor drawback, it would be that the hotel service felt a bit cold. I understood not having our room cleaned on the first day, but not having it cleaned at all for three days felt a little odd. Also, for a stay that included breakfast and dinner, drinks at dinner on the third night were charged separately. It wasn't expensive, but no explanation was given. No 'do not disturb' sign was hung on the door, yet no cleaning. Drinks were offered with dinner on the first two nights, but not on the third. The hotel's onsen only has one large outdoor pool, and it's quite hot – it felt like half water, half fire, which was very enjoyable.

The hotel is an old-style 🍽️ hot spring hotel with a quiet environment and free parking. Although the waiter didn't understand English, he took the initiative to try to solve the problems we needed to solve, which was also good. The slope outside the hotel is very steep, drivers must be careful There are no shops outside the hotel, so you need to eat in the hotel. The food is not very delicious, but it is full of Japanese flavor and acceptable.

From Tazawa Lake Station transfer bus, the hotel is near the bus station, less than three minutes walk, nearby also bike rental, you can cycle along Tazawa Lake for a week, you can also take a bus to the nearby pizza shop, we booked a two-stay, very exquisite and delicious food, and private bath available for reservation

Staying here again after a year felt so familiar and welcoming. The platform initially mentioned that the hotel didn't offer 24-hour hot water when I booked, but I didn't encounter any issues with that during my stay. The breakfast was excellent, and my family was very happy with it. However, because it was a long holiday in Japan, there were a lot of guests, and the lounge was quite small, so we sometimes had to wait for a seat. Also, there weren't many staff members, so restocking items occasionally took a while.

Amazing location. I really enjoy my stay here, as it is near to many great landmark, very very convenient. There is also a convenient store downstairs, and staff speak excellent English. Very helpful, and services are top notch. Highly recommend if you are visiting Akita for the first time, don’t waste your time to look for other hotel. Just book this one.
