Shimoda Tokyu Hotel

The room was spacious, but unfortunately, our assigned room was slightly off-center from the sea view. The public areas, however, were absolutely beautiful and uncrowded, making for a very relaxing experience. The cliffside hotel offered breathtaking views from its elevated position, especially the sea views at sunset and under the daytime sun – a stunning expanse of blue sky and ocean. One spot even reminded me of Jiuzhaigou! The pool area was surrounded by various hydrangeas, which was lovely. The nearby Kotoda Coast was also gorgeous, even more so than Tsumekizaki. The teppanyaki beef at Xiaoting was tender and delicious, the set meal was generous, and it even came with ice cream. Definitely worth a return visit.

The hotel was very clean, and the food was absolutely delicious. The hot springs were also wonderful, probably because it was a weekday and not crowded. I highly recommend getting the dinner plan. For breakfast, we were able to have it in our room, which allowed for a very relaxed start to the day. As other reviewers mentioned, the坂道 (steep hill) up to the hotel was quite something. We went by car, and at one point, we encountered another car coming down in a curving tunnel. Since uphill traffic has priority, the other car had to back up the hill to let us pass. After arriving, we enjoyed walking to the shopping street in front of the station, but on the way back to the hotel, we took a taxi from the station. Even the taxi driver radioed ahead to another taxi waiting at the top of the hill to hold their position before starting the ascent. It would be great if there were traffic lights at the top and bottom. There aren't many cars coming and going, so we just hoped there wouldn't be any oncoming traffic on our way back.

I happened to experience a 5.8 magnitude earthquake in the Fuji Five Lakes area. The whole room shook violently, and all the bottles and jars on the table fell to the floor. Surprisingly, the hotel was completely fine after the quake. The earthquake resistance is truly impressive! 👍 If it hadn't been for the earthquake, I'd say this hotel is incredibly convenient. It's easy to get to Gotemba for shopping, and the bus service to and from Tokyo is also very accessible. My only regret is that I didn't get to see Mount Fuji 🗻

We booked a mix western+japanese tatami big room. The views are lovely , the cleanliness is on a good level , the staff is attentive and responsive.the meals included are served buffetstyle in a huge room with seaside views. A lot of choices and level of food good enough. There were also 2 lounges and 3 onsen. The main one has view on the Atami peninsula. I would recommen

The seafood sashimi was a little small, but the meal was satisfactory. The stairs from the parking lot to the front room were tight for me with bad knees.

The facilities are a bit old, but that's typical for Japanese-style hotels. The ocean view was absolutely stunning! The food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. When we reported a leak in our bathroom, they immediately upgraded us to a larger room, which was excellent service. There were many foreign guests at the hotel, probably because the Western food suited their taste.

It's been over a month, so my memory's a bit fuzzy, but everything about our stay was great. What really stood out was when we were looking out from the front desk towards where Mount Fuji should be (it was cloudy, so we couldn't see it). A staff member noticed us, and enthusiastically pointed out its location. Their service awareness was truly exceptional.

This stay offered the quintessential, meticulous Japanese service. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and proactively helped with our luggage. We also enjoyed exquisite welcome desserts and matcha while checking in. The room had a fantastic open view, with a blend of lush greenery and ocean vistas. We even got to witness a sliver of sunrise in the morning (though it was cloudy on the day of our stay, so we only saw a peek). The ryokan provides an 'in-room dining' (heyashoku) service, where staff thoughtfully arrange and deliver incredibly elaborate breakfast and dinner spreads right to your room – a true feast for the senses. Of course, the most perfect experience of this trip was undoubtedly the private open-air onsen attached to our room. Soaking in the hot spring while gazing at the unbeatable ocean view was pure bliss! Although the ryokan also has two public open-air baths, the scenery there was comparatively unremarkable, and there were quite a few insects around dusk, so we only stayed for a short dip. Overall, the private in-room onsen experience was impeccable.

Excellent hotel. Beautiful, clean, traditional. The onsen was beautiful with a view of their garden. The water was heated perfectly with immaculately clean water. All amenities were offered when you stepped out into the changing room, ear buds, lotion, hair perfume, shampoo and conditioner. As you exit to your room there are two massage chairs to enjoy. The room we stayed in was perfect, It had a view of the bay, a big balcony, and three separate rooms. I was traveling with my son and this afforded me a private room to change my clothes and be separated while we slept. Freshly pressed kimonos were provided for the Onsen or/and to attend breakfast in. Now I'll talk about the highlight.! The breakfast buffet and dinner were included in the very reasonable price. The breakfast was extensive with fish, eggs, yogurt, homemade delicious jams, salads, fresh fruit, natto, sausages, rolls, bread, pastries, a coffee machine with choice of lattes, cappuccino, etc, a juice machine, fresh milk from famous Tanna dairy, and more! It was amazing! Dinner was also delicious, changing every night with selections such as broiled fish set, fried chicken set, steak set, all were seasoned well and perfectly cooked. All came with soup, rice, main entree and dessert. The staff were welcoming, kind and caring, friendly. The manager even sent me a special note about a piece of art I was curious about. Highly, highly recommend this Ryokan. I never wanted to leave. It's just outside of Atami, in the hills, beautiful location. Go, relax, nurture yourself, I did 😊🥰

Dear General Manager, I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the excellent service provided by your restaurant staff during my recent stay on 16-17 June 2026. I originally booked a room with breakfast and dinner through Trip.com, indicating 2 adults and 1 child (age 8). Although I noticed that your hotel website offers a kids' menu, the booking platform did not have an option to select it, and I wasn't aware of this at the time of booking. I therefore assumed that the hotel would automatically provide the kids' dinner menu for my daughter. However, when we arrived for dinner tonight, the staff informed me that we had been booked for three adult set meals, which came as quite a surprise. I immediately worried that my daughter would have nothing to eat and that we might have to go out to buy her dinner. Fortunately, your staff member, Mr. 坂田went above and beyond to communicate internally on our behalf. With his manager's approval, he was able to arrange the kids' menu for my daughter as a special accommodation. This truly saved our evening! I truly appreciate how professional, flexible, and helpful your team is. I fully understand that this was not the hotel's fault, yet your staff still went out of their way to resolve the issue and provide excellent service from the heart. Please pass along my sincere thanks to Mr. Mr. 坂田and his manager. I will certainly recommend your hotel to my friends and family, and I believe the management should know about this wonderful example of your staff's dedication.
