Ring O Bells

Room was very clean but staircase is very steep without a handrail., (it is a very old pub/cottage). The pain au chocolate was out of date. We did take this back to the lady behind the bar but it was not replaced. The room was not en-suite but there was a lovely large toilet/bathroom opposite the bedroom which we were told was for our private use. Shower gels, body lotions were provided which was nice. To sum up, I think it should be clear that they don't do a full english breakfast, & that it may be unsuitable for people with difficulty climbing stairs.
The Farmers Arms
4.1/527 Reviews
The Farmer’s Arms is a lovely pub with 4 rooms above. We had a twin room for 2 nights and was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the internet was virtually non existent, which I understand is an issue in the area, but caused difficulties planning. Car park is huge and great location as 5 minutes drive to Harlyn Bay Beach and 10 minutes to Padstow. Highly recommend The Golden Lion for dinner in Padstow and absolutely was a hidden culinary gem 💎

Anacapri
4.4/5101 Reviews
We had a very nice 5 night B&B stay at the Anacapri Hotel. Its location is literally a 2 minute walk from the lovely Gyllyngvase beach. Very friendly staff and breakfast was nice and had a good selection of choices. The rooms are on the small side but are nice and clean and it was just a base for us to stay at while we visited places around Cornwall so not an issue at all for us. There are plenty of places to eat & drink in Falmouth harbour/town centre, just a 10 minute walk away, or the beach bar/restaurant on Gyllyngvase beach serve nice food. We will return one day and would recommend it if you want a base to stay at while exploring Cornwall.

Lower Barns Guest House

Saint Ewe Wedding almost ruined ********* Lower Barns Saint Ewe Spoiled wedding ********* After reading many reviews about weddings at this venue we decided to book Lower Barns for our elopement wedding. The reviews main content was how helpful the owners are, how they help make your day so special, how nothing is too much trouble for them, well our experience was the absolute opposite. If it wasn’t for the people we are, our wedding day would have been ruined. After driving 240 miles we were greeted by Mike, whom I presume is the husband, to show us to our accommodation. The owner, Janie whom I had previously spoken to via telephone and email didn’t We booked Lower Barns wedding venue purely on the reviews. They raved about how lovely Janie and Mike are and how they’ll help make your day special and nothing is too much trouble. Definitely not the experience we had. On arrival at the venue Mike came out Janie didn’t come out or in fact ever introduce herself at any time during our 2 nights stay. The only time I saw her was during our wedding ceremony as unfortunately we had previously arranged for them to be our witnesses. During our long drive down to Cornwall my sister telephoned to say her and my brother in law are already in Cornwall and have their wedding outfits ready and a bottle of champagne to celebrate. They wanted to surprise us and be our witnesses. We were so happy and excited they had done that for us. Before showing us our accommodation, I told Mike we’d had the lovely surprise from my sister and brother in law and we’d like them to be our witnesses. Mike’s response was “we don’t like surprises” my initial thought was, it isn’t your surprise it’s ours for our wedding day. He then stated he’d go and ask Janie. We were unpacking our car when Mike returned and stated “I’ve spoken to Janie and they’ll have to pay £100 a piece if you want them as your witnesses. Bearing in mind we had paid £1500 pounds for 2 nights and £450 for Mike to be our photographer. They now wanted another 10% so my sister and brother in law can sit with us for 15 minutes. At this point I will mention that my brother in law has terminal cancer and has made the rest of his life all about making memories. Myself and my husband were not only astonished but absolutely fuming at the sheer greed. I said to the back of Mike’s head (he’d carried on walking as he told us) but they’ve driven all the way from the Midlands to which he responded “it’s in the terms and conditions”. We then had to drive into town to tell my sister and brother in law who were obviously very upset. They offered to pay the £200 to be witnesses but after discussing it at length, we decided on principle not to be held ransom for £200. The joy had been taken out of the whole experience. We’d intended on drinking champagne in the hot tub and really having a lovely time together but the atmosphere changed. We felt unwelcome and uncomfortable and we both stated we couldn
Carnson House

Felt the need to post a review after reading some of the previous comments. We stayed here for one night before travelling to the Isles of Scilly. We arrived by train and the location could not be more convenient for both the station and the ferry. The town centre is also easily accessible and coastal walks in either direction are on your doorstep. Our room wasn’t large but was spotlessly clean and had everything you need. Bed was comfy and shower hot. Tea and coffee making facilities provided. It is on a busy main road but we knew this before we booked and actually found it quieter than expected. It certainly didn’t affect our sleep. The pub next door was no problem either. The price was considerably cheaper than the Premier Inn down the road and included an excellent cooked breakfast. Some people must be extremely hard to please! We shall look forward to staying again.
The Tree Inn

We had a comfortable stay, with very comfortable single beds. The bar is traditional, well stocked and cosy, with the added bonus of live folk music on the Friday night. The restaurant was closed, but they kindly made us lasagna, which was welcome after a long drive. The room 1 was no frills - a bit dark and chilly. Shared bathrooms a bit tired. Parking about 7-10 minutes walk away. We ate out as the restaurant was closed-I think this should be mentioned on the website and would probably have influenced where we stayed, but Bude is really close, so it was handy for seeing the area.

Bodmin Jail Hotel

I had booked The Bodmin Jail Hotel for my daughter's 18th birthday surprise. We weren't disappointed. From the moment we arrived, we couldn't have been made more welcome. The hotel was very quiet, probably due to being a mid-week in mid-October, so I'm not sure when the hotel is at full capacity whether the same would be said, but for us we enjoyed the peace & quiet of not being disturbed. The rooms (unsurprisingly, given the thick walls) were totally quiet and super comfortable. The bed was very comfortable, the towels fluffy, plenty of hot water and soft bath robes, along with beautiful-smelling amentities. There were tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but my only (very very minor) gripe was that there was literally only 1 decaf tea bag in comparison to about 10 sachets of coffee. I could have asked for more, I know, but I had brought my own so didn't bother. A complimentary mini-bar is a nice touch, too. The staff were lovely. Being so quiet, occasionally it was hard to find someone, especially when we went for a drink in the Champagne Bar in the evening, but all staff members were lovely. I had planned a surprise of some balloons and a birthday banner for my daughter in our room on arrival, and this was handled perfectly, even with the addition of a birthday cake made out of towels - a fantastic touch. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful and served in the beautiful chapel. All in all, we had a great stay and would thoroughly recommend it as an unusual destination. If you book directly with the hotel, you get complimentary access to the Bodmin Jail Museum. Be prepared, though, it's not much of a laugh (given its subject matter) and quite dark and scary, especially at the beginning, so if you don't like the dark, loud noises and being shut into underground spaces, perhaps give it a miss! I'm glad we went, though, as it really gave me an insight into just how horrific our prison system used to be.
