Emerald Guesthouse
4.2/596 Reviews
FANTASTIC experience right from the moment I checked in. The hosts are super friendly and helpful, and even drove me to a shop nearby when I needed a SIM card. The property itself is PERFECT if you need a few days to relax and unwind after a stressful series of flights! The garden is lovingly manicured and even has a pool, which was a nice surprise. They also have a FREE shuttle service from and to the airport as long as you let them know when you need it. The hotel is only 5 minutes drive from O.R. Tambo airport too, so don't get scammed (like I did) by the airport taxis (they charged me 250 rand for a 5 minute drive!). The hotel has its own kitchen and menu and will deliver meals to your door, and they also have a small shop with toiletries, etc. which came in handy. WiFi is good too, even for video (definitely better than the airport's!😅). So, next time you're heading to Johannesburg, definitely book Emerald Hotel. Now I just wish I had booked 5 days instead of one! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Sunrock Guesthouse
4.5/5102 Reviews
We needed a pleasant place to stay overnight longer than what is available at an airport hotel as our international departure was late afternoon. I chose Sunrock because of airport transfers inclusion, its proximity to the airport and traveller reviews. What a pleasant surprise this place was. Will definitely stay here again, particularly when travelling with family. Nice garden and lovely pool area. The themed bar was a delight, and the dinner (extra), although simple without much choice, was delicious. Good security and very pleasant staff. Whilst some reviewers state they have found it noisy at times from surrounding residences, we did not experience that at all and actually found it to be peaceful, despite some airplane noise during the day (which is to be expected when only 10 minutes from an airport). We chose the honeymoon/double room. It came with an ensuite bathroom which had both a bath and walk in shower.
The Ashford
4.7/57 Reviews
My husband and me, we traveled to ZA for the first time. Our first stop was at The Ashford guesthouse. That was actually a perfect choice! :-) I really loved their fittings and furnishings on the whole property. Everything was so lovely! We stayed there for 4 nights. The staff has been unbelievable great, too! As we are booth vegans, it was difficult to find the right accommodation. But the guesthouse staff is open minded to create a vegan breakfast every morning. It was delicious! The situation of the guesthouse is good, as you have the chance to walk to the Rosebank Mall close by. There, you can find lots of shops and restaurants. All in all, we definitely recommend this place! As we won’t make it to the Kruger NP this time, we definitely have to come back and we’ll book this guesthouse again! :-) Thanks for everything!
Foreva Wild
4.2/524 Reviews
Staying at Foreva Wild is a wonderful experience, the staff are super-friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is comfy. Location is great since it's inside the nature reserve , and as I was driving around I spotted plenty of wild animals! There are also guided safari drives nearby which were easy for me to book. The lodge is secure and clean. Breakfast is delicious. Wi-fi is okay , some spots are understandably slow with connection. Recommend using mobile data or bring your own mini-router/dongle. Overall, good value for money and you can be sure to be well taken care of at Foreva Wild !
Cyrildene Lodge

Airport Tower Lodge
4.2/558 Reviews
Beautiful place! The design and style are very unique with an old Pueblo style, and the location is great. However, it is still being renovated, and the swimming pool was not open in the summer. There should be improvement in stating that the shuttle service comes with an extra cost; it should be advertised as an option, as most stays offer shuttle services at an additional expense. The price was 200Rand, and an Uber is cheaper. The receptionist was very helpful and clear; she was super nice.
58 On Hume
4.9/544 Reviews
Seven years travelling every week for my job, I rarely gave a rating for an hotel on internet but this place is different. 58 on Hume is an excellent place to stay in Johannesburg. The house is secured and lovely decorated. You really feel at home... and what a home! The bedroom was really nice too and big. Some attentions for the customer are lovely offered in the room too. The dinner can be prepared at your request and was really good. A complete bar is available in the main room and the breakfast was one of the best I had too, including fresh fruits, hot and cold hole made things. Michelle and all the staff are really kind and can't be more helpful. Definitely a good choice for your stay!!!
Houghton Place
4.6/533 Reviews
The accommodation is one of the best places where I was. Sam and Sally are wonderful hosts and they make everything, that you feel familiar. The rooms and the house are lovingly furnished. The breakfast is with the freshest fruits and incredibly delicious. I think, it’s the best place in Johannesburg to make from strangers friends.
Aark Guest Lodge
4.3/544 Reviews
The accommodation was clean and the area really nice. Breakfast included and was really good. There were a few issues with our room, the shower head sprayed water all over outside the shower area. The tv remote didn't work including some of the buttons on the dstv remote. The other issue was the finding the place. The easiest road were blocked off and we needed gps to navigate to the place.
Thabiso Guesthouse
4.2/53 Reviews
The guest house staff were very friendly, and could speak English. My hotel room was super clean, including the carpets, linen, and bathroom. In the morning, the English breakfast was good, but there were no choices. I could not use the swimming pool because it was being cleaned. The guest house is conveniently located in a relatively safe part of Pretoria East and is near big malls.
