The Robberg Beach Lodge - Lion Roars Hotels & Lodges
4.2/557 Reviews
The rooms were spotlessly clean, spacious and full of amenities (mini bar, kettle, sherry, biscuits, safe for valuables, quality toiletries). We had a beautiful view of Robberg Marine Reserve from our large balcony. The lodge had common areas to enjoy the view outside. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was superb, with lots of choice of delicious hot and cold items. The Bed and Breakfast offer was good value. We had lunch two days, which was just the right amount of food and very tasty. The only negative was the evening meal. We were a group of 8. We ordered several different mains. The chicken was overcooked and tough. The caprese salad tomatoes were almost white they were so unripe. The pasta dish and pork belly were reviewed as tasty. We went to another restaurant the second night. It was a restful vacation. I would return, but not eat the evening meal in-house.
Formosa Bay

My partner and I enjoyed our stay at Formosa Bay. Generally, my desires in booking accommodation are minimal. There must be cleanliness, space in the room and at least, access to Wifi and a decent amount of channels to watch on TV, beyond the basics. Formosa Bay provides all of this. The resort also has a small restaurant set up and breakfast comes with ”vouchers” which off sets some of the costs. You can also order alcoholic beverages and set out on a deck overlooking a beautiful, natural landscape. I found the service to be kind, from reception through to those working in the eating area. The food was also of a good quality. I admit we did not take full advantage of all the facilities. There are 2 pools and a gaming area. There are also tennis courts. The location is also a 5-10 minute drive from the sea. It's located right on the N2 for travelers passing through Plett. We stayed there during the Christmas season and enjoyed ourselves. If interacting with diverse guests are your desire, then that is not what I experienced. I do not know why. But this could also have been the timing of our stay, which was during the Christmas season. I would definitely recommend this resort. We stayed on the eastern side of the resort. Not all rooms have self-catering services so ensure your booked room includes this if that is what you need and desire. Oh, something strange happened for a Christmas traveller. We requested clean bedding but the staff were away for the special days. We received a note saying no cleaning was allowed. I understand respect for Holy Days but do believe that service should continue nevertheless. Pay staff more during this time. What if the bedding was cleaned with spilt coffee or something? Does that mean no cleaning or clean blankets or sheets? I went to reception and eventually got service, even though I was told they ”might” help me ;)
The Plettenberg Hotel

Hotel is well placed on the bay with super views. We spotted dolphin on a coupe of occasions. Interiors were stunning with a light airy and high quality feel. Staff were attentive and friendly. However there were a few things that tainted what should be a 5 star experience. Staff never got breakfast right on 3 mornings we were there. They don't write the order down. So lottery as to what you actually get or when as had to chase delivery of toast, coffee etc. Even the ops manager got confused. Hotel is bottom of a steep hill so town center is reachable only by car for eating or shopping. They leave empty room doors open on our floor for some reason which slam shut in the wind. Happened each of the 3 days we were there. Properly makes you jump !!. We had an end floor room which was small for the price but at least had a partial sea view. I think the rooms on other side of hotel overlooking the car park would not be so nice. Overall a nice stay. Bit of polish it would have been great
