Hostels in Qinghai, China

Xining is a fantastic, vibrant city, and my biggest regret is not staying longer; it deserves way more time than just a quick transit stop thanks to its incredible food scene, night markets, and laid-back vibe. During my visit, I stayed at LETE Hostel, which serves as a solid, character-rich base for exploring the region. The top-floor communal space has real history and soul, beautifully flooded with sunlight, packed with green plants, a massive library, and even three cute resident birds. The ladies at the front desk are incredibly kind-hearted and welcoming, always doing their best to help out. Location-wise, it’s perfect - super convenient for the night markets, local food stalls, and bus stops, plus they offer safe bike storage for cyclists. For the price of a private room, the value and hospitality here are unbeatable, and I would absolutely stay again - and next time, I’ll be giving Xining the full week it deserves.

The hostel boasts an excellent location on Xinghai Road. My taxi driver told me it's a popular street for locals, bustling with street food and restaurants. (After two nights, I can confirm this observation!) I arrived close to 11 PM, and the male owner who checked me in was incredibly helpful, even carrying my heavy luggage to the second floor. He also added me to the hostel's WeChat group, which is great for travel info. The group announcement even has a detailed hostel introduction and a food guide – impressive! As for the room, I booked a 10-bed dorm but was kindly upgraded to a 6-bed dorm – thank you, owner! The room isn't huge, but it's very clean. There's a laundry room on the second floor, and a small open-air balcony where you can hang clothes or just relax (I heard there's a larger, proper drying area on the top floor, but I didn't go, so I can't confirm). The only slight disappointment was the women's communal bathroom on the second floor. It had an unpleasant odor, and the biggest issue was how narrow the individual stalls were. They have Western-style toilets, and the toilets themselves were quite dirty. When using the toilet, your head tends to hit the door because it's so cramped. There's a sign saying it's going to be renovated soon, and I really hope they improve it! There are also two communal toilets on the first floor, which are more spacious and have squat toilets, which are more common for Chinese people. This definitely makes up for the shortcomings of the toilets on the second floor.

Everything was great except the room had essentially no ventilation or air-conditioning so it was very hard to fall asleep however as I got cooler it was a lot easier but that is the only negative. Everything else about this hotel was great.

The location is fantastic, right near Xining Railway Station, making travel super convenient. Even though it's a hostel, the cleanliness is top-notch, and the bedding is spotless. There are plenty of great food options nearby, and the recommendations from the owner were excellent! The owner is really enthusiastic and provided very detailed local tips. For this price in this area, the value for money is unbeatable, perfect for backpackers and students. I'll definitely come back next time!

Enjoyed my stay at this hostel because of its vibes. Some people are just more suited as hosts than others, and the young boss of this hostel is certainly one such. Helpful, respectful, and with a sense of humour. The last picture is of the boss with us three guests - a Chinese, a Singaporean and a Japanese guest. The sitting room is a great gathering place - every evening guests gather there to chill and chat.

I stayed at this hostel for nearly twenty consecutive days and had a fantastic experience! The facilities are complete, the place is clean, and the location is excellent, making it great value for money. The two owners are clearly dedicated to their business; you can often find thoughtful details improving the rooms and common areas. The service is also very attentive. I originally booked an eight-person room, but the owner upgraded me to a four-person room upon check-in, and I stayed there afterwards, very satisfied with the room's design and amenities. The lobby area was equally delightful; the tranquil atmosphere was perfect for immersive reading and writing. The lobby also has recreational facilities like billiards and a foosball machine, but unfortunately, due to a tight schedule, I couldn't fully experience them, which was a small regret. If you're looking for a hostel in the area, I think this one is worth considering; it's excellent in every way, highly recommended!

The landlady is very warm and hospitable. She never smiles or talks. She is always cheerful and contagious. It makes people happy unconsciously. I urge her to stay here next time she comes to Xining.
