This hostel is really great! It has its own restaurant that serves meals daily, and you can also order coffee or cocktails. The atmosphere is lovely, with an indoor cafe and outdoor seating. They even have daily activities – I was lucky enough to catch a folk music performance on Saturday! My room was pretty quiet, the bed was soft, and it had a small desk and good lighting. Plus, there are several toilets and bathrooms on each floor, so you can use the restroom and shower separately without waiting, which I found really convenient. Here, you meet travelers from all over the world: families on vacation, solo adventurers, some looking for friends, others keen to experience Chinese culture… People from all walks of life and corners of the globe connect through this hostel, sharing a brief, special encounter.

Absolutely love this place! I've stayed here before, and it's consistently excellent. It's incredibly clean, and the service is fantastic. The lady at the front desk even helped me with my luggage. Facilities: The facilities are great, the internet is fast, the environment is comfortable, and the service is outstanding.

The location is excellent, very close to Kunming Station, the pedestrian street, and Cuihu Park. The room is also spacious enough. The only downside is the excessive smoking in public areas; it's pervasive. For someone trying to work in a quiet spot, I had to move three times. There's a corner in the restaurant that I suspect is directly opposite the second-floor restroom. Every time someone flushes upstairs, it's incredibly loud, like dirty water is being splashed directly on you. Also, the Wi-Fi is too slow.

This is my second stay at Backpacker's, and Lijiang Backpacker's is still lively, but the facilities are a bit old and not well-maintained. The cleanliness of room A24 was a bit subpar. However, what really stood out was the excellent service at the front desk. Big Wang (Dawang) deserves a high rating; he was great at engaging with guests, playing Werewolf with us, chatting, and recommending nearby food. It was a very good experience overall.

My first time staying at a hostel, and it exceeded all my expectations! The overall environment was clean and fresh, the facilities were complete, and the layout was very comfortable. Everyone was polite and quiet, not noisy at all, making for a really peaceful stay. The location is also excellent, very convenient for getting around. It's affordable but offers a great lodging experience. This first hostel stay left a wonderfully positive impression on me; I highly recommend it!

On the day of arrival, the hostel provided a pick-up service. The front desk staff was very enthusiastic and even helped with our luggage. The room was clean and tidy, and the hostel had a great atmosphere with live music. They also offered meals. **Facilities:** Wi-Fi, toiletries, and a laundry room were all available. **Cleanliness:** Clean and tidy. If staying over three nights, you can ask the front desk to change the linens. **Environment:** Located at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, the scenery is beautiful and the climate is pleasant. **Service:** On the day of check-in, the hostel contacted us regarding the pick-up service, which was very thoughtful. **Dali Ancient City West Gate Shuttle:** The front desk would ask every hour if anyone needed a shuttle, which was very considerate.

This was my second time visiting Kunming, and also my second stay at Yajv. I have to give it a full 5 stars! Yajv is right near Kunming Station. If you exit the North Plaza and walk straight to your right for about five minutes, you'll be there. It's located within a residential complex, a three-story building, with a supermarket downstairs and plenty of places to eat. The rooms at Yajv are clean, cozy, and comfortable. The mattresses are very soft, and they clean the bedding after every guest. The rooms are spacious, with ample room beyond just the bed. Each bed has a privacy curtain, and everyone gets a locker for their belongings, which requires your room key to open – offering great privacy. Plus, no outside food is allowed in the rooms! The bathrooms are communal and separate for men and women. The women's restroom has double doors and offers 24-hour hot water. The water pressure is fantastic! This is so important for us Guangxi people! Guangxi people have to shower every day!! What I loved most were the communal space on the second floor and the large balcony on the third floor, both great places to relax. The second floor is non-smoking; you can watch people and cars go by outside the window, read a book, or even ask the owner for a cup of tea. He hasn't priced his tea yet, so just be a bit cheeky, it doesn't cost anything to ask. In the living room on the second floor, there's a wall with a cloth or something hanging, covered in drawings. The owner and his friends designed and painted them themselves – they're totems. There are sun patterns, bronze drums, frogs… symbols representing the natural and animal worship of primitive tribes. Here, you might find yourself having many 'wild and imaginative' thoughts. The rooftop on the third floor is very breezy and comfortable. In early summer, you can see the lush green trees growing freely. You might even find a dog zoning out with you, though it could also be that he's hidden a bone upstairs and is watching to see if anyone is going to dig it up – hard to tell what they're thinking. Another enjoyable trip to Kunming, I'll be back next time!

This was my first time staying at a Shangri-La hostel, and while many friends recommended it, it was also my first time in a private room without a private bathroom. The price was great, but having to walk down the hall to the restroom in the middle of the night was a bit of a nightmare. I didn't shower for the three days I was there. The front desk staff, both the young women and young men, were excellent and almost always granted my requests. Breakfast was really affordable. Even after midnight, the hallway was still very noisy, and there was a lot of crazy dog barking. When the room next door closed their door, I could feel a huge vibration in my bed! But staying in a hostel is all about the atmosphere, right? You can meet fellow travelers in the lobby and go on adventures together. Almost all of our companions were from the 'Lijiang Backpacking Ten Years' group, so let's go climb some mountains together! Facilities: No private bathroom Service: Excellent

The bathroom was very clean and regularly serviced. The people were nice. Environment: There's a cafe, but the coffee looked cheap so I skipped it. The cafe is great for working and even has a projector for movies, which is a nice touch. Service: Spot on!

The hostel is in an excellent location. The manager is very kind and always tries to help. The place is clean, the beds are large and comfortable, and the common areas are great and perfect for meeting people. There are Western-style toilets, and the staff speaks English, which is a big plus for me. It doesn’t smell like cigarette smoke (which can be common in China), and quiet hours are respected. I would definitely stay here again.

--atahuolan-Had a wonderful week in Dali. The hostel had such a great vibe, and the courtyard was so cozy. There were so many adorable cats – I absolutely loved them! Now I have to head back, and I'm so reluctant to leave. I've practically been crying all day 😭. I also made some friends and created so many wonderful memories... Wandering around Dali with my roommates, and even celebrated a birthday with a foreign friend I met. Saying goodbye was also very emotional 😢. Until we meet again, my friends! I hope we can all live our lives the way we truly love. I'll definitely be back.

GGuest UserI stayed for two nights here in a four bed women dormitory. It is simple and you have all the services that you need : a kitchen, a washing machine, little food shops at the building's entrance and it's not far from the railway station. Also, hosts are wonderful !! They prepared a meal in the evening. We visited town together : they brought me to Kunming lake, street snacks, food market in the morning and a nice park. All that for free !! I highly recommend this homestay. Simple, not expensive and warm up. 😊🙌

GGuest UserCompared with those popular youth hostels in Dali, this one is relatively quiet, but there is nothing wrong with it. The owner is very nice, the place is very clean, men and women are on different floors, the bathrooms are a little small but completely sufficient, and there was no need to queue for washing at night when it was the busiest during the May Day holiday. The location is about ten minutes' walk from the ancient city, and it is very cost-effective and recommended.

GGuest UserI went for it for the price, but still some lacking things surprised me. The bed was hard, the walls in the room were mostly dirty and stained from both human use and mosquito splatters. There was rarely someone available for inquiries and the outside toilet was a big downside, since it was quite cold, especially at night. Having a kitchen to use was definitely a plus and the rooftop areas were pretty nice, although messy. I was sad to see all the animal they have spend the whole day caged or chained 😔

GGuest UserThe hostel was exceptionally clean and tidy, and I was touched by many thoughtful little details. The owners were incredibly warm and friendly, offering a lot of itinerary suggestions and tips. The view from the small balcony was also stunning, perfect for watching the sunset and the sea of clouds; the location was superb. The beds were comfortable, the place was very quiet, and the facilities were complete. The other guests I met were also incredibly friendly and full of positive energy. Highly recommended!!!

GGuest UserThe staff here is quite nice, they give you a disposable towel (a nightmare for the environment but it's a kind gesture, though), there is free drinking water at the reception and there was a washing machine that was free to use. The building is super interesting and has a very cool cylinder-shaped courtyard where people love taking photos. The building is full of artsy places and cafés. The reception is on another floor and quite far away from the dorm, though. That also means that most people will stay in the dorm, eating, being on phones etc. The problem here is that the hostel failed to put up signs that food isn't allowed in the rooms so you can't point those guests towards it. What is normal in almost every other country isn't normal in this one. Whenever I have a roommate who feels like he needs to burp every 30 seconds, fart and clear his throat at the same time, I want to book a ticket out of this country immediately. At this hostel I was also unlucky in that regard. I'm mentioning this because certain types of hostels attract certain types of people. These Chinese-style squat toilets they have here mean that you will stand in someone else's piss every time you enter the bathroom. And that toilet is right underneath you when you take a shower.
