MMantougagaThe room was spacious and had a balcony with a view of Lake Taupo. It was very clean, and housekeeping did an excellent job.
There's a large parking lot below the hotel, making parking convenient. The path from the parking lot to the hotel is also well-lit.
However, some rooms were undergoing renovations, and it was quite noisy in the mornings. This could be disruptive if you're looking for a relaxing vacation.
Taupo is located in an earthquake zone, and we experienced a small tremor during our stay. It wasn't major, but it was a bit startling. It's good to be aware of this if you're planning a trip to Taupo; apparently, small earthquakes happen several times a year and are quite normal.
GGuest UserChalet was fantastic. Great spot. Very clean and tidy. The heated bathroom floor was an absolute delight. Beds were very comfortable. Would have loved to have stayed longer. Wifi wasn't great, kept dropping out. Staff at reception were awesome! Very friendly and helpful. Would have liked to have had a vacuum due to kids. 😳 Pools were amazing.
EElfiiIt's within walking distance of the beach, where you can dig your own pool in the sand and soak in the hot water. You can rent a shovel for $5 at reception. There's a heated pool on site. The bungalow was cool to sleep in, despite the heater being on. The kitchen and toilet are a bit far from the sleeping area.
GGuest UserWe had a night here to recharge and the hotel and hot pools really delivered. The hotel is immaculately clean, and while it is a little dated, as you would expect being a historic hotel, we were really comfortable - beds were good, we slept well and it was quiet. The hot pools are a hidden gem that really blew us away, we had them largely to ourselves and we soaked our fatigue and sore muscles away, in lush bush surroundings, with the sound of the waterfall in the background, native birdsong and the sounds of summer cicadas. We'll be back.
DDominique FishI stayed here with my mum and brother in a kitchen cabin. The cabin itself was quite basic and very small – fine for one night, but it would feel too cramped for a longer stay.
That said, the campsite itself is lovely and the swimming pools were an absolute highlight. We really loved them and would happily stay here again just for the pools alone.
Next time, I’d definitely upgrade the accommodation to something more spacious. An on-site café would also be a great addition and would really enhance the overall experience.
GGuest UserA good first stop over for our campervan trip as it is 1hr away from auckland airport. We checked in after opening hours (they close pretty early) but we could easily find our way and the check in instructions were clear and easy.
Plenty of flies attracted to light at the campsite. Our camper was filled with flies and spent a long time chasing them away. So do be careful when turning on the lights when moving in and out of the camper.
