It was a terrible hotel I do not understand how was this hotel granted 4 star! Rooms are small. Service is bad. Breakfast was horrible. Unpleasant behavior of personnel especially the person with glasses and weird hair needs service training especially to children who’s stays at hotel. I would definitely not recommend it and hope you do not choose it as well. There are better options near to Gent if you want to visit Brugges as well. In addition I paid unfair 30 Euros for my daughter’s breakfast for 2 days. Management and hospitality service definitely should change asap. Anyhow I rate it as 2 star highway hotel.

A very good four-star hotel with very good service. There is a free parking lot at the door. It is very important for us who are traveling by car. It is very convenient to turn in at the highway intersection. There is also a very rich breakfast and a mini refrigerator. We stayed for two days Very satisfied, will stay again next time

This hotel is a real find! Warm welcome after our long journey, with a fuss free check in. Very easy to find, just a few minutes off the motorway. Lovely big room with everything you could need. Comfortable beds, with extra pillows provided. The rooms (and in fact, every part of the hotel)were beautifully clean. Breakfast was great. (Omelette maker was a big hit!) Room was made up before we had finished breakfast. The bar had a comfortable atmosphere, and was very well stocked. The train station was an easy, 15 minute walk through the pretty town, with plenty of nice restaurants. Trains in both directions (Bruges and Gent) every approx 20 minutes. We would totally recommend this hotel, and really hope to go back soon.

Rude staff, dreadful food. My husband and I stopped off at supposed 4 star establishment looking to order breakfast. However, when we went through to the dining room the most appetising thing we coukd find was some hot dogs on rollers usually only seen at the funfair or petrol stations. Therefore, we decided to just opt for coffee instead. I informed the member of staff at the reception desk that I would no longer be eating breakfast but happily have a cup of coffee. To my disgust, he then told me he didnt like it that I had told him I wanted breakfast and then changed my mind and was not happy about it. He was so rude that I told my husband that we were leaving immediately. How dare he be allowed to speak to customers like that. Thankfully, I wasnt staying there!
Response from Property: Hello, please be aware that we had the displeasure to have you visit our hotel. You came inside the hotel and asked for breakfast, as we were still serving breakfast during this time, we allowed you in even though it was fully booked. After a few minutes (and using the machines in the breakfast area to take coffee/...) you decided you did NOT want breakfast anymore because "there are no hot breakfast options", which we understood, but you kept on complaining and refused to pay for the coffees you took, it was all just a cheap trick to get free coffees and being able to complain about anything and everything online afterwards. I would like to thank you for posting this review, as it shows clearly to other guests how unfriendly and unhinged you are, your revenge review doesn't make any sense when we have 40+ persons eating breakfast here on a daily breakfast, with no reviews like yours ever occuring. The owner told you to that its dishonest and very poor manners to go inside the hotel, check the entire breakfast out, look over everything and take coffees, dirty the table and THEN decide to not want any breakfast and then even dare to refuse to pay for the coffees you took in the breakfast. We hope you learn some manners and that this review serves as a detterent to like-minded people as you.

Top place to stay. Exceptionally clean and organised. Superb value for money and located in the centre of town where there are various restaurants. Pete the owner was very accommodating. Highly recommended and would stay again without hesitation.

A soul less place to stay. Upon checkout I asked if I could look at the breakfast buffet as I have certain dietary requirements. I was told that there was no ‘sightseeing’ of the breakfast room. Not sure if it was the receptionists bad command of the English language or if he was trying to be funny….. strange!

When it comes to thinking of places to visit in Belgium, the town of Aalter in East Flanders, probably isn't the first place to spring to mind. Granted it doesn't have the charm of the Belgian coast, or the bustling hubbub of the larger, more tourist-oriented attractions, but its central location halfway between the cities of Gent and Brugge make it an great place from which to explore. The 4-star Best Western Hotel Orchidee in the center of Aalter provides an ideal base where you can plan your explorations. Aalter train station is a 15 minute walk away, and from there you can catch one of the regular trains to Gent or Brugge, with either journey taking half an hour. Alternatively, as the E40 motorway is just a few hundred meters from the hotel, both cities are accessible by car in around 20 minutes. I stayed at Hotel Orchidee for 3 nights just after Easter, 2022. The earliest check in is 2pm, and so this was the time I designated upon booking. (A word of caution for those hoping for a late check in. The reception desk closes at 11pm.) I arrived at the hotel at 2:05pm and was greeted by Piet, the hotel manager, who told me that my room would be ready in 10 minutes. There are several facets that I would expect from front of house staff - especially the manager - of a 4-star hotel. One of these is that they should be well groomed, besuited preferably, but nevertheless tidy in appearance. After all, they represent the hotel, a guest's first impression of what they might expect; and as the saying goes "You don't get a second chance to make a first impression." My first impression of Piet was that he was someone for whom sartorial elegance was not a phrase he was familiar with, with one too many buttons open on his creased shirt and apparent indecision on whether said shirt should be tucked in his trousers or not. Still he was amiable enough and pointed to the spacious, well-appointed bar off to the right of reception, where I could wait for my room. Whilst waiting, in addition to noting that the bar staff were better attired than the manager, I had time to peruse the menu, and discovered that a hungry guest could choose from crisps, nuts, a plate of cheese and salami, or a Croque Monsieur. Not exactly what I would expect from a 4-star hotel kitchen. I would later discover that the reason for this limited dining experience is due to the fact that the hotel does not employ a chef. Piet the manager is apparently chief, cook, and bottle washer, which probably explains why room service is not offered. My room was on the second floor overlooking the car park (which incidentally provides free parking, except on Saturdays when the Farmers Market is held), and no fewer than six bottle banks that are almost constantly in use throughout the day. If, like 1970s singer-songwriter Nick Lowe you "love the sound of breaking glass", this will make you feel right at home, otherwise it's somewhat irksome. The room was spacious enough, clean, with modern decor and

I used this hotel as a place to crash the night on the way back through Belgium to the UK. The hotel is very conveniently located just off the E40, on the southern edge of Aalter. There's a large public parking area immediately outside the hotel that I got the impression shouldn't be used during the day, but hotel reception assured me that nobody would check as long as my car was gone by 10am. Talking of reception, it was possibly the fastest checkin I've experienced at a hotel. I said hello, gave my name was given a room key card and told where I could find the room. It took no more than 10 seconds! Such efficiency is very welcome when you're tired. My room was large, clean, with double bed, TV, decent sized bathroom with nice shower (and, bizarrely, a small beer fridge next to the sink!). At £70, it felt very good value for money. The hotel has its own bar and also a room for breakfast, but I didn't make use of either. Instead I took a short (200m) walk east along Brouwerijstraat to a small market square which is surrounded by decent, reasonably priced restaurants and bars. I'd definitely stay at Hotel Orchidee again in similar circumstances. It's recommended.

Hotel room is a loft with a bed. Bathroom with a sticky shower curtain and only the toilet roll is replenished, nothing, ha ha, but there is nothing. Breakfast, you can put your croissant in an oven yourself and it will be something. The owner's son doesn't say anything at all, he mumbles something or says go to Piet, the owner. You'd rather not say anything to them because their looks are terrible. On Saturdays and Sundays the bar is closed before 10pm and closed with shutters. There is another man serving who is also not interested at all, what do you want? and that's it then she doesn't look at you, she does something and says nothing anymore, she walks away. They like to do that there. You don't feel welcome there. We can advise against it to everyone

Well located between Ghent and Brugges, with public parking right in front, free at night. Friendly staff, very clean, pleasant room, hearty breakfast with lots of choice. I recommend without hesitation.

Very good hotel, the rooms are perfect, clean and spacious, as is the bathroom. The little ones are plentiful. Ideally located halfway between Ghent and Bruges with public parking opposite the hotel paying per day beyond 2 or 3 hours (I don't remember) but completely free at night. The bosses are available and friendly
