The establishment features a prime location, exceptional spa and pool facilities, a luxurious breakfast with smoked haddock, and attentive staff. However, guests find the meals and services overpriced, despite the high-quality service and clean, comfortable rooms.

We booked the sleep and dine package with £45 each towards dinner and breakfast included. We were put in room 8 and the main room is absolutely beautiful and the bed so comfy but the bathroom seriously needs some work. The grout was dirty, there was lots of peeling paint and the water pressure was too low to have a proper shower. We made use of the spa and really enjoyed the pool, the sauna and steam rooms. The jacuzzi could have been warmer but that is perhaps personal preference. The main issue is the floor is extremely wet and I almost fell even walking carefully. There was also nowhere to sit in the spa area with dirty towels as well as dirty glasses everywhere. Food portions definitely need to be improved. It was £10 for a bit of sorbet, a couple strawberries and a very measly amount of meringue, which is ridiculous. The food and drink however was of good quality, the cocktails we tried were delicious. Overall, we’ve come away not feeling as relaxed and rejuvenated as we’d have liked.

Another fabulous stay at The Elms! I’ve been with my partner several times for my birthday but this time I went for an overnight stay & spa with my sister. Such a lovely hotel, small & cosy with loads of character. Our room was fabulous, clean, spacious, bed was so comfy with luxurious bedlinen. We both had a massage which was fantastic & enjoyed the pool & spa facilities which had been upgraded since my last stay - excellent! A little more seating in the pool area would be a bonus. Staff were all very helpful & friendly as always. We shall definitely be back - it’s my favourite place to go.

We live locally to the Elms but haven’t been for years, and since the hotel changed hands, so when I got brought a gift voucher as a birthday present it was timely to give it a go and I booked dinner at Badgers. The location and look of the hotel is stunning. The welcome from colleagues was very friendly and we started with a drink in the bar. The cocktails were amazing. The restaurant is a lovely room and atmosphere was relaxed. The food was excellent, very elegant, beautifully presented and clearly made by chefs who know what they’re doing. The portions were relatively small which suited me fine as it was a good opportunity to have three courses but I think my husband would have liked the portions a little bigger. Service was good but the restaurant was actually quite busy and I don’t think they had enough colleagues working to sufficiently look after the quantity of guests, although it was clear all colleagues were working hard. Badgers is extremely expensive and I knew this from looking at the prices on the menu when ordering albeit I hadn’t keep a tab on exactly what we were spending. Cocktails were £12 - £14 each, starters circa. £15 and mains pushing towards £30. I considered having a steak but they charge per 100g which I noted would have worked out crazily expensive for a reasonable size so made an alternative choice. There is definitely some room for improvement to bring the level of service in line with the standard of food, for example, when we moved from the bar to the restaurant we had to carry our own drinks whilst trying to balance coats, bags etc… I would have expected drinks to be taken through on a tray by a colleague. And no offer of having my coat taken so it sat thrown across the back of my chair. When I asked if there were nuts in a dish due to an allergy I was told ‘probably’ so had to point out I would need a definitive answer from the chef which was then given. Generally speaking, we had a really lovely time and I would definitely return although it would have to be for a very special occasion perhaps on a yearly basis to justify the cost which is a shame as we live so close. We’ll definitely be swinging by for a cocktail more regularly though! Their cosmopolitan was one of the best I’ve ever had!

Having had a very positive experience at The Elms Hotel and Spa previously, when we were looking for somewhere to stay to break up a long journey home, this was the first place we thought of. We were not disappointed. We booked the same room type: opulent, because it was so comfortable. We'd forgotten all the stairs, but it was worth the climb again. The spa and swimming pool are wonderfully warm, which made up for the chilly April weather. We enjoyed a lovely meal in The Badgers restaurant and breakfast the following day. As last time, everyone was extremely friendly and very professional. The hotel restaurant was undergoing renovations during our stay. This did not spoil our visit in any way. Who knows? Maybe we'll have to pay The Elms another visit to see what the new and improved restaurant looks like!

Very nice and hardworking staff. They ran out of pastries at breakfast and they seemed short-staffed.

We visited to celebrate my mum's 90th birthday and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience, they were very friendly, efficient and helpful. We were warmly welcomed and the service was faultless. The afternoon tea was beautifully displayed and exceptional quality. We were also delighted with the choice of teas and the addition of other savoury items to accompany the sandwiches. We had a great experience and would highly recommend.

A beautiful hotel and spa, the staff in both couldn't of been better. Friendly, helpful and made the experience excellent all round. We felt fully relaxed from the second we arrived until the moment we left. A place we will definitely be revisiting and couldn't recommend enough.

The hotel certainly looked impressive as we arrived and the reception staff were very helpful. However, I wanted to make the following suggestions -- the evening meal was expensive in my opinion -- £120 including two glasses of wine. the bedside lighting in the bedroom, though atmospheric, was not very practical and attracted dust. the bathroom toilet cistern had a very slow refill and there was no loo brush. With only one easy chair in the bedroom, it was difficult to unpack, or sit with any comfort.
