Awesome awesome stay. private amazing room with amazing view and spa pool. Breakfasts were incredible, make sure you ask for the omelette, (or scrambled eggs) it is their specialty :-) Very helpful with advice and nothing was too much trouble for them. Would definitely stay again

The Flying Trout Boutique Lodge is a wonderful location and great facilities with the most accommodating and helpful hosts. A fantastic base from which to explore the Taupo Region. We had nothing more to wish for, it was perfect, thank you.

When you travel you hope that a B&B is good….FLYING TROUT far exceeded just good. A very comfortable bed, spacious rooms , and hospitality that will not easily be matched. Located in central North Island it isa perfect base from which you can explore…or do nothing. Karen and Robert our hosts are thoughtful and caring.

We spent three nights at this great B and B. Spacious accommodations, very friendly hosts, very accommodating with our early morning departure (early breakfast), and great views from balcony! The location is perfect as it is away from the crowded town of Taupo.

The property is amazing. From the warm welcome from Rob & Karen to the attention to detail in the way they host their guests. The room we were allocated was comfortable and cosy and the decor was perfect. I could have easily have just stayed snuggled in the property with a book and a glass of wine without leaving. The breakfasts were freshly cooked and delicious. I completely recommend The Flying Trout.

What I will always take with me about The Flying Trout Boutique Lodge is the tremendous and exceptional hospitality of the hosts, Rob and Karen. They make every effort to ensure their guests feel truly looked after. From the complimentary chilled bottle of wine, chocolates, fresh milk, bottled water (and more - my list really could go on and on) to the wonderfully generous breakfast: such a range of fresh fruit and a divinely cooked all encompassing "Big Breakfast" - everything here is about providing the guests with comfort, care and luxury. In addition, we loved sitting on the large wrap around balcony of our suite gazing out at a sensational sunset over Lake Taupo. A very special place to stay as our trip to NZ draws to a close and our thanks to Rob and Karen for being such superb hosts.

The lodge is perfectly located with great views and the room was splendid. But what makes it extra special is the incredible attention to detail that Karen and Rob have put in to make their guests’ stay “just right”, and their kindness in tailoring the local recommendations to our specific needs. Thank you very much indeed. If and when we are back in NZ we would love to stay again.

The Flying Trout was excellent! We had a great view of the lake from our room and the hot tub was a relaxing way to end each day. Rob and Karen were wonderful hosts going above and beyond to make our stay perfect, from the wine when we arrived to fantastic restaurant recommendations and even helping us get to town for dinner (not to mention the delicious breakfasts that were a highlight of our day). Highly recommend staying here for a relaxing vacation!

Rob and Karen run a luxurious and personal Bed and Breakfast. The rooms are huge suites with outside terraces overlooking the lake and town of Taupō. Beautiful sitting areas, well made breakfasts, and a free bottle of wine per room! Karen did laundry for us for no charge. Very appreciated!!
