We booked based on location and all the positive reviews. We arrived just 2 hours prior to check in. We had plans that evening in Calgary and had hoped to catch a chance to check in early (if possible). When we arrived at the front desk - there wasn't anyone there. A little bell was there so we rang it. Waiting a few minutes and then a gentleman came to the desk. I explained we were early (and recognized that) but were hoping we could check in a bit early as we had plans in Calgary and didn't want to have to come back to Airdrie. Immediately - instead of saying ”I'm not sure but let me check” I was greeted with a reminder that check in is at 4 pm. Not 2pm. I commented I realized that but was hoping our simple room of 2 queens might be available. This hotel has many rooms. When I asked again if he could check if there was a room avail - he got quite frustrated stating that check in is at 4pm, that check out is 11 and that the room staff are on lunch - there are no rooms available - end of story. He humoured me, asked my name and ”looked” and then said no. I've worked service industry - people have lots of demands but it's how you handle them that makes the difference. Had this person said to us ”unfortunately check in isn't available right now as our team is busy getting all the rooms available but if you give me an hour - I can prob get you in.” You can't tell me that if check out is 11am and it's now 2pm that not one single room is available. And if the staff is on lunch - are they going to then get all the rooms finished between 3 and 4pm after their lunch? My point - this could have been handled VERY differently. He could have offered to hold our bags, he could have asked us to come back in an hour, he could have been polite. He was rude and very curt. We ended up driving into Calgary to a family members home, visited for 2 hours and then drove back to Airdrie to check in - when we waited 5 minutes for someone to come to the desk - as there wasn't anyone there. I assume a manager that time helped us. He was pleasant and apologetic and seemed to know we had troubles earlier. The room was okay. It appeared clean. Unfortunately we arrived back that night quite late - there was hair (from others - was black hair under the comforter) in our bed which creeped our kids out and made us all wonder how clean the bedding was. We ran into a very drunk individual in the elevator who had likely been in there for quite some time and when we arrived to our floor, there was vomit in the hallway. Now this drunk person and vomit isn't anything the hotel can help - and by the morning the hallway was cleaned up. At no point was there anyone ever at the front desk when we walked by - you would have always had to ring the bell. The room had shelves which we appreciated to keep our stuff off the floors and the hard wood floors are nice - if there had been carpet, I don't think we would have stayed. Our experience overall with this hotel wasn't stell
Excellent
