Hotels Near Centro Ecologico Akumal in Akumal

Just returned from our 3rd stay @ Hotel Akumal Caribe ~ had a wonderful time. Loved our ground floor (deluxe kitchenette) room (406) just steps away from the pool & beach. Nothing better than waking up to the birds singing & enjoying a cup of coffee on our patio. You know your day is going to be a good one, when Juan (goundskeeper) greets you with a ”Hola, Buenos Dias” as he starts his day. But, then ALL the people employed @ this property are super friendly & make you feel like family each & everyday. Our room was cleaned by a very nice gentleman (forgot to get his name) always with a smile & a ”hope you are having a nice visit.” We had all our meals down by the Lolha ~ excellent food/drinks/service!! Big ups to Oscar, Willy, Rafael, Alberto, Jordy & the rest of the crew. Again, always service with a smile. Hotel Akumal Caribe & The Lolha are a perfect example of how a property/restaurant should be run & I'm sure other properties could learn a valuable lesson from them. We really enjoyed learning about what the nature reserve does for the animals & the environment. We hope others tske the upportunity, rdpecially thise that need to hear about & see what happens when you try to domesticate wild animsls. The true rescue aspect of it is also amaxing. The cenote was brearhtaking! Take the chance to change in the banyo if you want privacy ;). Also, note 2 banyos, one at start/end & one in middle of tour. Bring water, walking shoes, bug repellant, bathing suit, sunscreen, hat, msybe a microfibre towel for after cenote. Pics don’t do it justice!

This small, family owned resort is gorgeous. It’s tiny, so if you’re looking for tons of different types of cuisine and night life- this isn’t the place for you (I was in bed by 9pm on two nights of my trip…my dream come true). I felt safe the entire time I was on property and at the beach bar. The food they offer is AMAZING (seriously dreaming of that lime-tortilla soup), the beach bar right next door also has some food options. It was all freshly prepared and delivered to our room or the beach for us! Tony & crew were SO accommodating!! The beach bar has amazing drinks as well (one too many “Dirty Monkeys” did lead to the best beach nap ever) & it the views are GORGEOUS!!! I had a pool facing room, and my parent had a beach facing condo and I enjoyed both. The rooms are cold, showers are hot, & the beds are clean. There’s some things as far as the rooms go that aren’t five star (zebra sheets are weird, there’s some mineralization on the faucets & shower)- but you’re in the jungle & on a beach so that constant humidity provides some wear and tear. The things that mattered (clean, cold A/C, Hot shower) were all there. There was also smart TVs in the rooms and strong wifi. And I slept like a rock on my king sized bed. I had read some prior reviews about the “king sized beds” being 2 twin mattresses put together but I was pleasantly surprised to find that we all had king sized mattresses. I only wore shoes for like 5% of my entire vacation!! I had a FABULOUS time & will return year after year. Also- if you walk down the beach about 200 yard there’s beach side massages- best massage of my life. I’m sitting at home trying to figure out how to quit my job, sell my belongings and move to Villas De Rosa- that’s how much I loved it!!

A stay that could have been perfect but... When we arrived, there was no one at the reception or anywhere else. After waiting, we found on the counter a paper with our name with the name of our room and then found it, with the key on the door... (”hotel” with 6 rooms) The room is very beautiful and very spacious, with a balcony overlooking the pool. Equipped with a TV and a fridge. It was only when we wanted to go out to eat that we came across a lady who only spoke Spanish... we didn't see anyone else during our entire stay except the night concierge who also only spoke Spanish... When we returned, the guard at the barrier at the entrance to the residences asked us for a QR code to get in, which the lady hadn't given us... We learned that apparently security doesn't know how to generate QR codes except she wasn't aware of the problem (?!) So every evening, we had to explain to the various guards that we didn't have a QR code, show the Xaha reservation, they took a photo of our passports and the car's license plate! The rooms are cleaned every day but we found at least one surprise guest every day: cucaratcha, spider or scorpion! And the shower drain was almost completely blocked... The pool could do with more regular cleaning, as could the (shared?) kitchen which isn't very fresh. The lock on the bay window of our room was broken, so we never knew how to close our room completely when we were away. The worst was still the day of our departure: the day before we took the trouble to ask by Whatsapp what time the check out was since we had seen no one during our entire stay! We were told noon. On the day, at noon, no one at the reception! We called the 2 Whatsapp numbers that we had, went to the other hotel that is managed with the xaha and we even asked the guard at the barrier if he could reach someone for us! We would have left like that but the lady from the first day had 2000 pesos of deposit to give us back. Fortunately we had asked to get our passport back because basically, it was him who acted as a deposit! And without a passport, no plane! Fortunately also that our flight ”only” at 9 p.m. because otherwise we would have missed it!! I finally stopped the lady outside at 1:15pm and she told us she didn't know we were told to check out at noon! She barely apologized, she was almost laughing. So we didn't manage to go eat in Akumal as planned before heading to Cancun. In short, I totally advise against this ”hotel” which is extremely poorly managed!! I don't understand how it is so well rated! Too bad because it is very beautiful and very quiet.
