The Rose Cottage Inn

Pros: clean, comfortable sleep, Instant hot water, ample parking. Cons: little space around bed (a single bed would have been better in this space) No surface area for working, No chair of any type No food offering. ( I knew this before booking) No shelving other than window sill for bathroom stuff! No wifi, I don’t think Towels should be next to wash basin not other side of toilet. I didn’t see any information regarding nearby places for an evening meal. A general warning, accessing the main road west or east is a challenging task Perhaps my visit caught me on a bad day!!

Clean and comfortable with lovely views over the countryside

Came here after coming off the hills on the second day of walking along the South Downs Way. Not too far from the path and along a metalled road which is very pleasant after a hard day on rough ground. Room was the double cabin 'Hikers' Rest 1' which had an en-suite. Snug bordering on cramped but the bathroom was a good size. The accommodation itself is in a very old pub which is now a guesthouse. Breakfast is very nice and served in the pub's old dining room. Well worth £10. The two owners couldn't be more helpful and sent the instructions to get into the room in advance as well as recommending a nice pub. There are a couple a fair walk away, about 20-30 mins one way. Cricketer's was excellent and worth the extra mile or so. We were very kindly given a lift to the station the next day as well which saved a fortune on a cab. I will seriously consider coming again before walking along the final section to Eastbourne. The Rose Cottage Inn was our base for a week while attending Glyndebourne and visiting the Sussex countryside. The location (in the charming village of Alciston) could not have been better, and our room (in the former pub’s front parlour) was clean, cozy, and well-appointed. We chose to have breakfast each morning, which was always delicious, filling, and cooked to order. Our hosts, David and Val, were absolutely lovely, and generous with advice, information and just about anything else we needed during our stay. We especially enjoyed watching the sun set over the South Downs from the rear garden (the weather was particularly fine during our stay) and hearing the horses clip-clopping past our window in the morning. So glad we chose to stay at The Rose Cottage during our trip, and hope to return on future visits to Glyndebourne and the surrounding area!

We stayed for one night. It was lovely, clean, and quiet, myself and my partner will be returning again, and we will be recommending, David and Vals Rose Cottage Inn to our friends and family, it has safe parking onsite and there are lots of places to eat out and visit, Rose Cottage is a little gem and i would recommend a stay here ,the views the quietness is just wonderful, thankyou again David and Val you have such a lovely property, see you again soon x

I stayed in the Beacon view on the 28th to the 29th of June on my solo trip with my dog, this place was amazing with beautiful view and stunning accommodation and very dog friendly, The owners were wonderful and a life saver as my phone charger stopped working so they had a spare so I could charge my phone as I needed my OS maps as I was walking the south downs way, honestly will definitely be back! Thankyou

Regular stay now when visiting relatives. Very happy to return. Dog friendly too.

The cottage we stayed in was Beacon View and it was lovely. The view from the patio doors was just open fields with horses in then. The cottage was spotless clean and very warm and comfortable. We wiuld definitely stay again.
