Melia Alicante

We stayed the last three nights at this hotel. We stayed exactly 10 years ago in a Level Suite with sea and beach views. Beware that on this side are some suites with really small balconies. We did stay in one of them. This time we chose the marina view. All suites on this side have huge balconies. Also, you will get stunning sunsets. However, during the daytime, it can be too hot to sit on the balcony. The marina side is much sunnier. Our suite on the 4th floor has been recently renovated because it had modern decor. There were two bathrooms: one with a shower and one with a tub. This 5-floor hotel is big with over 100 rooms per floor. The breakfast was quite crowded at 10:00. On the last morning, we went at 8:00 and it was pleasantly calm. The food selection is very wide. Our stay had a good value for the paid 153 euros per night (plus a total of 8.000 Melia points). This rate was flexible and included breakfast.

The room is good and there is a balcony with a nice view. It’s a lot to eat when you go out nearby, but be careful with the bunch of restaurants that lie to tourists. There is a small supermarket in the next street. It is a daily necessities for Chinese people to buy. The service is very slow and slow, although it seems to be an effort (?) but it really needs to be improved. And the elevator is the most troublesome thing I remember. I have to wait a long time. Once I waited, I would like to climb the stairs to climb a dozen layers.....
Suites del Mar by Melia

The hotel is very well and centrally located at the marina. From there you can reach the city center in just a few minutes on foot and the beach is also in front of the door. As the name of the hotel suggests, the hotel basically consists of 2 types of suites: a marina view suite and the more expensive open sea view suite. For us, the marina was also a beautiful sight and the room is large and spacious. The bathtub next to the bed was honestly one of the reasons I chose this hotel and I have no regrets. The entire complex, from the street to the sea, belongs to the Melia hotel chain and is therefore “shared” with the Spa Hotel Porta Maris. However, care is taken that the breakfast is in a different room than that of the guests of the other hotel. There is also a ”private” exclusive pool for the guests of the Suites del mar. The breakfast is really very good, you have a magnificent view of the sea and through the ”orange machine” you have the freshest orange juice. Nespresso is also available for a good coffee - the other coffee machine for cappucino etc is a shame!! Why is there a machine with coffee and milk powder in such a hotel???? Otherwise everything according to the price. The staff is friendly and speaks good English. Parking garage costs €20 per day/night - that was too much for me, we parked for free in the area and then took a short walk to the hotel.
Hotel Spa Porta Maris by Melia

My friend and I are just back from 3 days staying at the Hotel Spa Porta Maris by Melia. The good points: - great location; 5-10 minutes walk to the beach, old town and promenade where there are lots of cafes/restaurants and market stalls. About 20 mins walk to the higher-end shops and El Corte Inglés department store - comfy beds, large shower, decent wardrobe/drawer space, balcony big enough for 2 - entire hotel is spotlessly clean - nice buffet breakfast in restaurant with amazing views The not so good points: - check-in was a little slow - we arrived around 1pm to be told our room wasn't ready and may not be until around 4pm. We were able to store our cases safely until then but had to get changed and freshen up in the restaurant toilets - our stay was paid in full well in advance of our arrival but they still took my credit card details. This was possibly to cover any in-room charges but this wasn't made clear - the bar seemed to close relatively early for a city centre hotel (not sure what time exactly but I think it was before midnight) All in all, I would recommend this hotel and have no hesitation in using again.
