Spent a wonderful afternoon eating and drinking whilst catching up with old friends - over from New Zealand. They couldn't believe how attractive and comfortable the bar and gardens were - all they had hoped for for traditional English charm. We were served by Lucy who couldn't do enough for us and made us feel so at home.

We stayed for two nights whilst we attended a wedding nearby. The rooms were clean and full of character. We dined in the restaurant on the first night, food was very good and had some excellent vegetarian options. Staff were all really friendly, with a special call out to Carol who made us fee very welcome and went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed. We would certainly stay again should be in the area.

Very cosy and charactersome. Lovely French owners. Very tasty food. Probably the best accommodation on offer in the area. We both had a very good night's sleep, with lovely coffee in the room. Very relaxing.

Lovely old pub hotel with beams and real fires. Great location for country walks. All staff were friendly and helpful. Great modernised rooms that retain the beams but also have new bathrooms, posh coffee machine etc. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. Will visit again!

In recent months the Anchor has been through a strange time. Loud music, questionable food and town centre like music acts. But, in the last couple of weeks the new team have got hold of it. The chef is visible and the food excellent again. Front of house team seem to be well chosen and well led. As locals to the Anchor we are regular customers. Great to see it coming back to where it should be. Thoroughly recommend this marvellous pub again!

The worst food I have ever had in a restaurant. Genuinely rock hard buns and burger as dry as the Gobi Desert - a disaster that set me back almost £20. We were in a group of 10 and every single person was laughing in disbelief at how much we had been had. No wonder it was deserted on a Saturday. Sadly we seem to be the last to get the memo . . . Avoid at all costs, shameful.

A popular walk for us starts with driving from Wokingham to Bentley, parking up & walking 5 miles, cross country, across the A31, railway, woods, streams, finally arriving at The Anchor for a well earned beer, but not today! Being a Monday, we checked their website & the were opened from 3pm. We arrived at about 3.30, the door was open but we did notice that everybody appeared to be ‘suited & booted’. We got to the bar & were greeted by a barman pouring a beer. We stood there for a minute & I noticed a tiny chalk board on the bar maybe indicating a wedding, so I asked if we had arrived at a reception & he said YES, this is a private function & I can’t serve you. I protested that we had walked miles but he just said sorry. I told him we checked the website before setting off & there was no mention of a function, nor was there anything posted on the door. He said that there should have been something on it (we checked again-nothing), so I said that there will be something on the internet, on TripAdvisor! Why, oh why couldn’t he have served us a couple of beers & asked us to sit in the covered area outside?

We stayed for a local wedding and found the Inn to have lots of character. The room was beautiful and rustic. The shower was very nice and powerful, they even supplied toothbrushes and paste if required! The only slight let down was we ordered breakfast and were told it would be left outside the room in the morning but this never happened. I got in touch and the inn processed an instant refund and were very apologetic. I would definitely go back

I was very impressed with the style and cleanliness of the room and bathroom. There was a wide range of tea and coffee to choose from in the room and plenty of individual milk pods. My stay was an enjoyable experience and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I would thoroughly recommend the Anchor Inn for a staycation.
