We booked an overnight stay in an executive king room. On arrival the hotel looked lovely and the receptionist was friendly. We were given room 11. A huge room, but very very dated and very cold with condensation running down the single glazed windows. The thermostatic control was missing off the radiator and while the heating was on in the bathroom, the radiator in the room was stone cold. The bathroom was seriously dated, pampas suites were used in the 1970s and the corner bath was tiny. It’s not great to see ikea mugs in an executive suite. My partner lay on the bed and there were springs poking through the mattress. He phoned reception who promised a heater… when non arrived my partner went to reception to see if we could have another room. He was given the key to room 12. We walked in and one look at the bed raised questions, clearly a pocket duvet, that had clumps of filling in the pockets that needed fluffing out. The bed was also lumpy and uncomfortable. We were finally moved to the China suite: much better, although not really warm enough even with the rads on 5. We tucked the curtains behind the rads to try and get more heat, but really they were struggling with the single glazing. The shower was inadequate, you had to keep moving to get wet as the water pressure is too low. And the sink drainage was extremely poor. It epitomises faded grandeur, more money needs to be spent on plumbing and heating, 50 year old bathroom suites don’t command the title ‘executive king’. We didn’t
