Matachica Resort & Spa - Adults Only

I would absolutely recommend Matachica in Belize for a romantic or relaxing stay! I travel often and this was a treat. We spent 4 nights to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday and it was a magical stay. Getting there: After you land in Belize city BZE, you will have to take a short plane ride or water taxi to the San Pedro island. We opted for the San Pedro Belize express water taxi as it was the bigger ferry and we don’t love small planes. Taxi from airport to the ferry is 30 minutes, the ferry ride is 90 minutes. The resort sent staff to pick us up at the ferry and that was another 30 minutes to the resort. Arrival: The resort is beautiful!! Right on the water with lovely over ocean loungers. The staff welcomed us with drinks of our choice and were overall so kind and thoughtful the entire stay. Room: We chose to stay in the sea/ocean front luxury suite of which there are only two. The suite was massive with a separate bedroom, a huge bathroom with oversized tub and walk in shower, double closets, and a separate indoor living room. We also had a private plunge pool overlooking the ocean, private deck with deck chairs and beach chairs. This room category included a daily continental breakfast and the highlight was fresh baked pastries that changed every day and all were so good. ***There are no TVs in room! You’re supposed to unplug… We brought a computer screen with express vpn downloaded via fire stick so that we could watch college football live on fubo which worked perfectly. Service highlights: Loved the room service hot coffee on wake up service every morning, we also had a nespresso machine and tea kettle. The housekeeping was excellent!! Extremely clean, and I loved the turndown service with cookies every night. I never had to ask for more towels they freshened twice per day. The property mosquito control was top tier, they supplied us bug spray and did very discreet fogging, I did not get a single mosquito bite. The staff were so responsive, and responded immediately to any issues that presented. Excursion highlight: The best part of the trip was a fishing and snorkeling excursion with Victor and Charlie! My husband is an avid flyfisherman but I don’t fish very much and still caught so many! We caught about 2 dozen fish (snapper, mackerel, jack) and just missed out on a barracuda. The on boat ceviche and lunch were so good. And snorkeling the coral reefs was so beautiful and worth it. On arrival back to the dock we selected the fish we wanted to eat, and the staff cleaned them and cooked them for us for dinner and the cook from the chef was phenomenal! We had them three ways: as ceviche, blackened and fried, but they give options for the cook as well as for included sides. All of this, the fishing/snorkeling trip, the cook of the fish, and the dinner is all included in the cost of the excursion. Small boutique hotel, very well maintained with exceptional staff! No one passes you by without saying hello. Dining room staff addressed us by name. Special thank you to Heidi, Andre for an amazing table service for our candlelight dinner and Victor(?), who drove us to the airport and gave us an amazing history of the island.

Everyone at the resort was incredibly nice and super friendly, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing and warm getaway!

Our casita was beautifully decorated with vibrant, local touches and offered ultimate privacy. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to the Caribbean breeze was pure magic. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every meal was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The cocktails at the bar were tropical perfection—don’t miss the frozen watermelon mojito! Whether we were lounging by the pool, kayaking over crystal-clear water, or just soaking in the peaceful vibe, everything about Matachica was designed for relaxation and joy. If you’re looking for a boutique experience with luxury, soul, and natural beauty, Matachica is the place. I didn’t want to leave—and I’m already planning my return.

My husband and I stayed at Matachica for a week, the first week of January, to celebrate my birthday. We had an amazing time! The resort is beautiful and well maintained. Staff were all so friendly, helpful, and attentive. Shout outs to Lilian at the spa, Lance at the Tree bar, Julio, Jose, Gustavo, Josue, and Moses at the Mambo restaurants and bar! All the staff were outstanding and I wish I remembered everyone’s names. The only problem we had was our hot water heater going out but maintenance had it replaced within 2 hours. We will definitely return, Matachica is paradise!!
