This is a first class hotel with the most amazing front of house team and a great chef sending out innovative and well cooked food . We were particularly impressed with the so-called trainee assistant manager on duty 3 May 2024 who just ran the show like a proper hospitality professional .

We came for drinks and dinner unexpectedly, the team in the restaurant were lovely, really helpful without being intrusive and super knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant had a relaxed feeling and the whole place is so beautifully designed and well cared for - it’s clear the team really care about the place. We had the Cauliflower Salad, Roast Chicken Breast with Dauphinois potatoes, and a blondie for dessert. We would highly recommend each of those dishes and would not hesitate to come back :)

Stayed for 2 nights last weekend, hotel was lovely as were the rooms, clean and modern. Staff were lovely restaurant was nice, only moan was the evening food which was like warm and waiting to be seated took an age, made worse by Staff chatting in the kitchen while we waited, some people really weren't happy. All in all a nice stay.

Stayed at Hotel as Retirement treat for my husband. The Hotel is beautifully done and very very clean indeed. The breakfast was wonderful, as were the staff. We will definitely return. Thank you for looking after us so well.

I love it when you look at a menu and there's no mention of a service charge in sight, but you discover that a 10% one was automatically put on your bill when just ordering a sandwich at the bar. Up your prices to include this, make it clear or leave tips up to the client.

Some simple things like good morning or excuse me from the front of house staff would go along way. The breakfast was so nice but there could be some music in the background playing, as it felt a bit strange with it being so quiet. The room was lovely in regards to the olden touch of the building but this did mean the floors weren’t flat and did make you feel dizzy from time to time. The windows are old fashioned and I presume not double glazed because there is a street right beside the hotel that is quite busy for a small town and we were woken up at 6am 2 mornings from the sound of traffic/bin men etc. We stayed here as we were attending a wedding nearby but i wouldn’t stay here again, I think from other guests I would just stay at the holiday inn nearby.

This is an absolutely delightful place to stay, staff are superb, attentive and engaging. I would happily recommend visiting this hotel, recently had an extreme makeover to meet more current demands. The essence of The George is it’s Team, hard to mention everyone but there are some notable people including the most exceptional manager who is always filling in, supporting his team and engaging with customers and guests. He welcomes feedback and picks up on any suggestions and views that may improve service. Menu is a little limited, that said the quality is excellent and there’s an excellent Italian ‘Piazza’ a few metres down the road. Thank you Georgies

Great stay with a friendly staff and people going out of their way to help. I was staying for one night and the booking was really simple. The hotel contacted me to book dinner which I did. Check in was simple and easy and arriving on site I was met with friendly staff. There was a lovely lady (J) who went out of her way to help me even though she was really busy in the morning. The food was absolutely delicious and was very well worth the money. I will definitely stay again!
