There's nothing fundamentally wrong, but there's nothing great. The building is really tired, both inside and out. The rooms (at last the one we had) had clearly had an update in the last few years and was OK, but the corridors and the exterior had not. Walking through the (very long) corridors felt like walking through the 1980s. However, the biggest issue was breakfast. From what we could see, there were only two members of staff front-of-house for a hotel full of guests. Of the two members of staff, one was working like a trooper - greeting people, clearing tables, trying to find people places to sit etc. and one was wondering around like she was asleep, occasionally waving a damp cloth at a table. What this meant was that they couldn't cope with the 9am rush. We arrived and were told to sit anywhere we liked in the restaurant - there wasn't anywhere available. So she suggested we sit in the lounge area, but there was nowhere there either. This wasn't about space, this was about tables not being cleared. We could see at least three used but not cleared tables with noone sitting at them, but nobody was clearing them, except the poor lady who was trying to do everything. Come on Avisford - you literally have a list of the people who are going to eat breakfast on any given day - how hard can it be to ensure you're able to service that? For what it's worth, the food was fine, albeit there wasn't any ketchup out. Was it awful? No. Was it lovely? No. Would I stay there again? Probably not because I'm sure there are nicer places around.
