Very quiet but fenced so if you don't book a safari, you get bored. In addition, you have to pay exorbitant taxes to access the park, so the hotel!

The Sarova Corp and *******, Posted that we had to pay $140 US upon arrival by credit card, NOT CASH. At the gate to the Park, we were told that we had to pay $140 per day in cash for our stay at hotel in Park. Including day of our arrival after Park hours!
We had no US dollars in cash, so they let us go to hotel to get money. The Shaba lodge had no dollars and could not give cash of any kind for credit card withdraw.
So we spent the second day negotiating and reception called a bank in distant village to see if they would let us use their atm to get $600 USA
in Kenya Shillings. We spent day getting Shillings going twice on a dangerous gully filled dirt track for 10 kilometers! Not a road!
Your ******* Insurance with Allianz would not cover the Money lost by theft,
as it did not fit in trip interruption guidelines.
I said it was theft by misrepresentation but they did not listen. They sent me a refusal. Thus more time and money wasted.

We were here for two nights. It was notable for the friendly staff and friendly security guards but the food was not very good. Please note this could be subjective as I am not an adventurous eater. The meat was very tough and hard to cut. They could provide steak knives. However the chef was a lovely person. There were many vervet monkeys on the grounds and that was treat!

The services offered by Claudia at Sarova Shaba lodge were excellent, she was very kind. She was able to remember the favourite orders of me and my colleagues. she was charming and cheerful. She was working late at night and again in the early morning.

Beautiful grounds; definitely lodgy. Loved the water flowing all throughout, and down to the river - seemingly one connected body. It was a peaceful setting, and very cool to see crocs and other wildlife on the river that ran in front of the lodges (with an electric fence separating us, of course). Seeing the mischevious vervets and baboons running around the property was also fun. The food was plentiful, with selections to fit pretty much every palate, and the service was wonderful. The rooms were OK - bedroom area was nice enough but the bathrooms were basic...however they served the purpose. I wasn't a fan of not having any type of curtain or shade covering the bathroom window (frosted glass only), or especially of having a frosted glass pane next to the front door...that made me feel kind of vulnerable since anyone could look in and see "enough" if they wanted to.

Sarova Shaba experience was great. The food, Boma dinner, the game drive, the rooms and the entire compound is just out of this world. Service by Chef Edwin, Chef Robert, Chef Jane, Chef Charity, Chef Meshack and waiter Moses were all super cool!...

An oasis in the desert. This is a lodge with tired rooms however it was clean. Our group of 3 retired couples do NOT like buffets and all meals are served buffet style - lots of mediocre food. Biggest complaint was they ATTEMPTED to label foods on the buffet as gluten free BUT were not consistent and in fact mislabeled some as gluten free when they were NOT! Staff was attentive and location good for exploration of this desert area and wildlife viewing in Samburu National Reserve and Buffalo Springs National Reserve.
