Just as advertised - modern and clean! Really lovely facilities, with pool and modern gym. Stagf were attentive and friendly.

Lovely hotel, well located with spacious room, comfortable bed and great service. Enjoyed my short stay and would happily return!

We checked in late in the night. We needed an extra bed in our room and Front desk did not say no even though Hoise keeping was not available. 10 stars to the hospitality! Rooms were big enough, hotel within walking distance to Sky tower. All in all everything was superb!

I am a loyal Sofitel guest who has stayed at multiple properties internationally, and I write this review on that basis — to ensure other guests, particularly families, can make an informed decision before booking. What was positive: The front-of-house staff were professional, courteous, and welcoming throughout. Our pre-requested interconnecting rooms were ready on arrival, which we appreciated. Issues experienced during our stay: 1. Noise from external bus depot — Rooms on one side of the property face an active bus depot with traffic operating throughout the night. When raised with management, they confirmed this is a known issue that did not exist when the hotel was built. Despite this acknowledgment, no acoustic glazing or soundproofing has been installed, and guests are not warned at check-in. 2. Inadequate heating and air conditioning — The HVAC units feature outdated wall panels with no temperature display, making climate control extremely difficult. Heating was non-functional in one room. The hotel had already placed a portable heater in the room prior to our arrival, indicating this is a recurring known issue. 3. Plumbing defects — One toilet ran water continuously throughout the night, causing significant sleep disruption. A second required four to five attempts to flush effectively. Both are basic maintenance failures unacceptable at this price point. 4. Room adjacent to hotel laundry — One room was positioned directly next to the in-house laundry facility, which commenced operations from 6:00 AM daily. Guests were not informed of this at the time of room allocation. 5. Damp odor in corridors — A musty smell was consistently noticeable in the corridor near the lifts on our floor. 6. Room service cut-off at 9:30 PM — Hot beverages, including coffee and hot chocolate, were unavailable after 9:30 PM. This is below the standard expected at any five-star property. Management response: When these issues were escalated, the options offered were a room change to non-interconnecting rooms (unacceptable for a family), a refund for remaining nights (impractical mid-holiday), or an upgrade to a quieter interconnecting room at an additional NZD $150 per room per night. Being asked to pay extra to resolve a deficiency in the room originally allocated is not an appropriate service recovery response. Recommendation: If you are considering this property — especially with family — request written confirmation of your room's location relative to the bus depot and laundry facilities before booking. The brand name suggests a level of luxury that this property's current infrastructure does not consistently deliver. The staff deserves recognition. The property's management and physical condition do not.
