Staying here is a bit like turning back the clock and I liked it a lot. The historic building and decoration will not be to everyones taste, but much is in keeping with the style and period of the surroundings. In such a place, there are an inevitable number of shortcomings, namely no double glazing and no aircon, the latter might be more of challenge on humid summer nights, and some of the fixtures and fittings could do with some touching up, but there is a certain charm throughout, indeed old world English quirkiness might well describe it. The friendly and very good humoured staff certainly need a mention, from the warm welcome on arrival and the cheery send off at reception, to the cheerful and helpful breakfast service. I found the bed to be a little too soft for my liking, but everything in the room was clean and the shower worked perfectly well, as did the wifi. If you only like places with clean lines and the modern decor of the big international hotel chains, then this place is not for you, but I enjoyed my stay and would be very happy to return.
