Spent a week here at this lovely hotel. Rooms lovely and clean, air conditioning the best I've ever had, lovely and quiet. Fridge in room, lovely comfy beds. Breakfast delicious, fresh omelettes to order, bacon delicious, any kind of egg you like. Food could be hotter, but if you give it a stir, or pick the bit's over the heated candles you will dig out the hotter bit's. Not a huge buffet, but always something lovely to eat, lovely salad bar, what they have was tasty. Have to remember you are in a foreign country, West Africa, and you have to adapt to their way of living, no complaining, you are in a very poor country.........so you have to appreciate what they have to offer. Not the best beach I've come across, but we spent our time round the pool. Ok, so excursions...........we used the guy's in the orange shirts outside facing hotel, absolutely amazing, we used Babu, fantastic guy. Took us everywhere, just tell him what you want, and he'll sort it, very knowledgeable. Took us to safari in Senegal, ferry wasn't running so we went on small boat, and what an experience, we laughed all day. Walked with the lions, fabulous. Monkey forest amazing. Crocodile farm brilliant. We also did the home cooking experience and met Babu's family, wonderful people. Felt as safe as houses with Babu. A tip, take English money. We didn't, because I don't as a rule, carry cash around with me. Had a bit of an experience getting a large amount from bank, but Babu took us to large bank and got it sorted for us. You can only get so much out of the cash machine's per day. He was absolutely amazing, highly recommend him to look after you. Calypso restaurant is a MUST, so is the Indian across the road. We allso went down to Mr Bass, watched the football, great laugh with the locals, who are all Man Utd fans by the way, we support Liverpool, had plenty of fun banter with them. Grounds of the hotel are kept beautiful. Entertainment team are lovely, and really try hard to entertain, and do a brilliant job. They had entertainment probably every other night, all where great. If you like a game of pool, then the staff will lend their hand at giving you a bashing, they love joining in with you, and will give you plenty tips how to win. Every night we had plenty laughs round the bar area, everyone friendly, guests and staff alike. Red wine was lovely, sister said the white was too. Had a few shandy, which was very refreshing, as was the beer. Would I go back again, most definitely. Miss everyone at Ocean Bay and Babu, our guide and Sol, our taxi driver, thank you for taking such good care of us...........we'll be back!!!

Really lovely hotel in the Gambia. It's different to a "normal" all inclusive in that there isn't a vast quantity of food but the food quality and flavour is amazing. All the staff go out of their way to be helpful and friendly. A big shout out to Lamin Janju who was so lovely and attentive to us. We used Alex sannah as the tour guide from outside the hotel and he was really knowledgeable and passionate about the Gambia.

I love the Gambia and have visited several times. The places to visit to experience the local culture are great. The Ocean Bay could be fantastic. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The gardens are well kept and pretty. The hotel caters more for all inclusive and I am very glad we were only bed and breakfast as the food was poor and the bar had run out of coke, juices and many other items. Staff were a bit of a mix. Some were lovely, super friendly and helpful as is the norm in the Gambia but it is the first time I have experienced some staff who were unhelpful and had a couldn't be bothered attitude. In particular the female staff at the bar and some breakfast staff. I had a lovely holiday despite some of the issues but it could have been brilliant. I will definitely return to the Gambia but not sure I will return to this hotel.

Such a beautiful hotel. The staff are incredible and pull out all the stops. It is a solid 4 star hotel. The beach is beautiful. The town has a couple of nice bars - calypso and ziki Indian. As described by other recent reviews the guides are amazing , we used Famara. He was brilliant. It’s not worth walking around the town without him. We really got to see what the local area was like and whilst you have a guide no one hassles you at all. He really was brilliant. I organised to go on a walking tour of the local area with him. He said it was for free but we paid a tip instead - about £7 for 2 incredible hours. He also took us to the supermarket and fish market. The entertainment staff worked hard. We went B and B and brekkie was amazing. Overall a lovely hotel and beautiful country and great atmosphere!

First time in the Gambia and had a week at Ocean Bay. Very friendly and the A team entertainment team were very entertaining and enthusiastic. We were B&B and ate out each night. Calypso next door is a must as well as the fruit ladies. We also ate out in the Senegambia *****, at Gusto and El Sol. Great food and great value. We also did a day trip to Fathala with Lamin Jassey one of the official tourist guides outside the hotel. I was very wary of being approached and sceptical, but my fears were unfounded. He became our guide when we left the hotel and just wanted to be our friend.. and yes I have been told that many times before, but all good this time. The trip to Fathala was eventful but a fantastic day and we had a private and personal tour rather than being part of a group. On our nights to the Senegambia *****, Lamin organised a taxi which waited there for us for 2 hours, but would wait longer. Cost of the taxi around £12.

Friendliest staff in Gambia Having been to the Oceanbay for the past fifteen years or so I have said everything i can about it ( all good) So this review is about the entertainment. Ambrose who is in charge of entertainment does a superb job with his dance group The A Team. Every week the do a least five or six different routines which put diversity to shame there that good They also do daytime entertainment such as water aerobics. I can't praise Ambrose and his team high enough.
