What a beautiful surprise! Found this place by total accident and it was fabulous. The food was absolutely gorgeous so flavoursome and lovely choices as well. We will most definitely return next time we are around. So lovely that they could accommodate us when we hadn’t booked too! Thanks so much!

Turned up at 1.30pm on a not particularly busy Sunday. We are a cycling couple and were really hungry but we're told they couldn't serve us. We were 30 miles into our day out, so ate our own emergency rations at their picnic tables. Won't be risking that pub again. Exeter Inn used to be welcoming to cyclists years ago. Eventually had a good meal and welcome at The Globe in Sampford Peverell after 45 miles - no discrimination there.

Was advised by owner of our rental property to dine here. Off a main road but with plenty of parking. Entered the pub by what must have been the public bar end. At first didn’t think this was a foodie place but more of a traditional male boozer. Realised the pub had another bar which was quieter but still didn’t look very much like a place for a sit down meal. Next to this, however, was a restaurant. There was only one table occupied, which didn’t bode well, but we took our place nonetheless. Ordered the steak.it arrived. Cut into steak, didn’t need a steak knife it was so beautifully done. It came with salted roasted peppers, Bloody Mary tomato and skin on fries. Everything on the plate was outstanding. The steak was perfection. Crumble for pudding and again perfection. Highest quality and taste at pub prices. Service was prompt and the owner took time to chat and explain the dishes. A superb dining experience.

Booked as a convenient place to celebrate a couple of birthdays and a first stay “off grid” in newly collected motorhome. Inspired decision. Lovely traditional pub right on the edge of Exmoor – all the low ceiling, roaring fire, cosy chairs you would hope for in such an old building but with lots of really nice modern touches both in the bar and the rooms. Phil and Jonathan were fantastic hosts, the beer was very well kept, the food (dinner and breakfast) was delicious, the room was well appointed and facilities were immaculately clean. Car park is pretty level and separated from the road by trees and is secluded enough for traffic noise to be minimal overnight.

I had a lovely stay here and cannot fault a thing about it. I stayed on a Tuesday night which is their supper club evening, the restaurant was fully booked but they managed to squeeze me in. The food was lovely and really good value at £19 for 2 courses. The breakfast was also delicious! The bed was incredibly comfy with a good selection of pillows. The toiletries in the bathroom were locally sourced and really good quality. I would 100% recommend and hope to return myself soon.

Visited yesterday (21st) for Sunday lunch. The food was beautifully presented, very tasty and plenty of it. Reasonably priced and a good variety of sides. Service from Jonathan was outstanding. A really lovely pub. Will definitely visit again.

We were the last booking for Christmas Day lunch. We were treated very well and were grateful for the staff who gave up part of their Christmas Day for us. There was a slight delay in our food as an earlier large table had apparently arrived late. But all our food was exceptional and very well presented. We will definitely be back.

A pleasant country pub with appealing features such as the open fire and low ceilings. The 'snug' area was chilly and not so appealing but bar area was warm and welcoming. We were greeted by a friendly Jonathan. Accommodation was pleasant, again some lovely features but very dusty and lacking attention to detail. Sadly, the food and service was a HUGE let down and for that reason I wouldn't return. The restaurant was cold and draughty, waitress service almost non existant and food served (after a long wait) was cold and I do mean cold. (Im not someone who is fussy about piping hot food served on hot plates but this wasnt even luke warm, it was cold) Breakfast was equally disappointing with a pleasant looking plate placed down only to discover it was cold - stone cold beans and egg are yuk. Perfect for a drink or two but wouldn't waste my time or money in staying for a meal or overnight stay Lots of potential here but the Exeter Inn is destined to fail if it continues like this & no matter how much positivity the over enthusiastic Jonathan shows, it doesn't make up for the many other misdemeanors

We booked in for an evening meal and one night stay with our daughter and son-in-law (who have stayed here before). On arrival we were greeted by Johnathon who immediately made us feel at home. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and we loved the wood burning stoves. We were then shown to our rooms which were large and really comfortable. There were several nice touches such as a really fast hot water dispenser for drinks together with a good range of quality teas, coffees and biscuits. The bathroom had a nice range of products provided and was also really spacious. Usb sockets either side of the bed were a welcome addition too. The evening meal in the restaurant was delicious and the service was good. The shepherds pie was particularly tasty. Breakfast, served in the bar area, was also a good meal with a variety of options to suit all tastes. Overall we had a most enjoyable stay and look forward to returning in the not too distant future.
