Hillside Residence Khao Yai
4.2/59 Reviews
We have been to Khao Yai before at other resorts. This time we tried Romantic Residence. We would not recommend this place compared to other resorts in the same price range. The staff hardly speaks English, hotel room/appartment not designed with the user in mind (no reading lamps and bedside tables, air con in the middle of room and ice cool air on your head when lying in the bed). Besides, the style is not romantic at all and the pool is situated in the Romantic Hotel Resort which reminds of a shopping mall where nobody wants to lie quietly by the pool. The views from the room/appartment to the mountains was nice!
Lala Mukha Tented Resort Khao Yai

Lala Mukha is a very special experience. The hotel is well situated and well maintained. The tents are small but very cute and if you want to get close to nature, this is it. Some cheapskates might feel that ca. 100 usd for a tent is expensive, however you are paying for the experience and an experience it is. We saw a elephant at 6:15 in the morning right behind our tent (the people who thought we his place was expensive probably were asleep…). In any case it is worth it.

We booked for 2 nights, stayed 4, and would have been happy with a few more. Our garden bungalow had a nice large room with a separate shower and plenty of hot water. The beds were softer than the usual hard plank Thailand beds. We slept well on them. The AC also worked well. We used the large fridge to keep beverages cold and enjoyed them on our patio overlooking the lovely garden filled with bird songs. There's also a rooftop terrace but no chairs up there and we couldn't be bothered to lug some up. Breakfast on the patio was a highlight; it's served based on your choice. Tea/coffee, real fruit juice, and water and some bananas to start. Yoghurt if you want. Then the main selection. We enjoyed huge omelets or scrambled eggs with bacon, there were other choices. But not done yet! Toast with the main. Then 2 more fruit plates with very nice selection including a couple local fruits we hadn't previously tried. And finally sticky rice with mangoes or bananas. We couldn't eat it all! The family that owns and runs the place are just the nicest hosts one could have. They drove us 10 minutes to pick up the scooter we rented and did the same when we returned it, bringing our luggage. The father started 20 years ago with a cornfield and built a paradise. Restaurants and 7-11 are in walking distance and the Khao Yai gate is about 10 minutes by scooter. We spent 2 wonderful days in the park and went to the bat cave on the 3rd evening after relaxing in the garden during the day. I can't say enough good about this place. It was perfect for us.

The ultimate experience! First time to visit TH and Khao Yai is the best location to relax, unwind, destress! Food is *chef’s kiss*, staff are all friendly and polite, amenities are top-tier! Had a good massage to cap off the stay but really had a hard time saying goodbye so perhaps I’d say see you again soon instead! T’was fun and memorable!

I was here for a few days. It’s quite a lovely place and the facility and the staff are great. Just a few things to be aware of when choosing to book here: The rooms are spacious. Mattress is medium soft/hard. The buffet breakfast is plentiful and well serviced but it’s quite limited after a few days. The pool area is lovely as is the garden area but it needs updating. I’d advise you to check your room for hot water and mold before you settle in. The room safes are not secured to the wall so someone could, technically, take it out of the room and break open. My room, A318, had no hot water at all. I did talk to the desk staff about it and they tried to get it fixed eventually telling me it was fixed but it was always cold. I don’t need or expect hot water in Asia (I live in Thailand) but cold water kinda sucks in a shower. They offered to move me to a different room but I declined. There were spotty areas of mold in my room - be careful of that too. The hotel is a bit tired, especially the grounds and some of the furnishings and fixtures - it could all use a facelift and refresh. I did enjoy my time here and will consider returning but I will definitely be more careful about the room. They have a published water conservation policy posted in the rooms but it’s not followed at all. As per the policy, I hung my towels on the rack so they wouldn’t be washed. I came back and had new towels. When I informed them of the hot water situation they told me the engineer said to run the shower water for 10 minutes to get it hot. Odd? You betcha! So much for conservation and environmental awareness. Nonetheless, it’s good medium priced small hotel worth giving a try.

The hotel facilities were acceptable for most aspects. The sound proofing and the shower were deal breakers - we stayed at the room right next to the elevator and we could hear the service staff slamming doors and the next door neighbours talking very clearly. The shower temperature alternated between scalding hot and freezing cold without ever being in the comfortable range on the first night. It got slightly better the second night, then was not a problem at all on the last night. The cleanliness and the breakfast were the saving grace for the experience. They offered a good variety of food at breakfast and there were no problems at all. There were tents set up in the lawn to let guests chill and relax outdoors. The lights made the area very cozy at night. You can see that hotel tries hard to provide good service, but the hardware is unfortunately not as accommodating. The building went for a fake Italian style that was not tasteful. The thin walls and uncooperative shower made the stay uncomfortable.
