We stayed for 6 nights post-cruise. Taxi from the cruise port cost about €22. . You enter through the Baluard bakery’s front door, walk past the beautifully arranged sandwiches and pastries in the display case and there, hidden behind the cashier is the tiny Hotel Check-in counter with one welcoming reception staff member. We arrived early and had our luggage stored until check-in time around 1pm, We got the Wi-Fi password and found good speed throughout the hotel. We had a chance to review the breakfast buffet in the lounge, and opted to defer to day-by-day choice. That means on mornings we feel hungry and see items we like – we pay €12.50 each for an all you can eat/drink breakfast. Most mornings we just ordered at the counter a large vegetarian sandwich, a pastry and 2 coffees, which amounts to half the price of the buffet. We got a superior upper floor exterior room with a large bed, requested in advance. Two good size elevators require touch key access to activate. But they are right next to the bakery lineup with all walk-in traffic who can easily jump in to an elevator already with guests present. Perhaps not the best security, but we had no issues during our stay. Previous reviews had warned us about the room’s layout, and indeed it was very small, but clean and functional. It was on the 4th floor overlooking street, two high glass doors opening inwards to faux balcony with railing. Street noise is muted when doors are closed. Blackout blinds and sheers give full privacy.. Extremely comfortable large King bed with high quality bedding, plush towels. Two functional night tables with a drawer, but no chairs to sit on or a table to eat at. No English-language channels on the cable TV. No coffee or tea in-room, no fridge to store drinks or perishable goods. Wardrobe consists of a few wood handers on an exposed water pipe and a few open shelves. Lighting was adequate and the hair dryer worked well. The bathroom area right by the entry door is two cubicles with partially frosted glass doors which do not fully close nor lock. Great rain shower and hand held hose with excellent water pressure, but no place to put your own shampoo or soap. Don’t look for facial tissues to wipe your nose, because those are not supplied. Best to bring your own box or get some napkins at the bakery checkout. Don’t expect to control the room temperature. It is set centrally for the building so you need to adjust by opening/closing the windows. We liked the fresh outdoor air when needed. One of the best features is location. This is an excellent upscale neighborhood, just off the main Passeig de Gracia road. A short walk to 2 Metro lines, railway station to Terminal 2 at the Airport (from where a free shuttle will take you to Terminal 1). Shopping, restaurants and crowded tourist attractions. Next door is a 5* Deluxe hotel with a rooftop bar open to everyone with great views of the city especially late afternoon. Another positive attribute is t
