My husband and I stayed for 3 nights prior to a cruise, and stayed again for a night afterward. Great hotel in a perfect location with all the conveniences of being in the Gothic Quarter. Positively, the hotel is located on a side street (or alley as some have commented), it is quieter, but still literally steps to all the shops, squares, bars and restaurants. There is a great little bodega across the way for snacks, beer, water and fresh fruit. Easily within walking distance to anything in the Gothic/Las Ramblas area. We walked to La Sagrada Familia, I think it took about 45min…but we were just taking our time. You will definitely need a taxi to Park Guell, unless you really want to hike it! As for the 5 star debate; there is “Four Seasons” 5 star and Boutique 5 star. My husband and I have travelled extensively, and have plenty of 5 star experience, and The Kimpton is a perfect 5 star boutique hotel. We found that the Kimpton is comparable to other boutique hotels throughout Europe, expect the rooms to be smaller and sometimes a bit “quirky”. We have definitely stayed in smaller rooms. Yes, the toilet is oddly separate from the shower and sink, but it didn’t bother us at all. We stayed in both a standard double occupancy room, and a larger suite type room. Both were great, and honestly, who spends all their time in the hotel room? Beds were great and super comfortable, rooms were clean and modern, windows were big to let in plenty of natural light. The only valid complaint one might have is that there is no proper closet. This did not bother us at all, but I can understand it may bother others, however I’m sure the hotel staff will do whatever they could to accommodate or remedy this somehow. Which leads me to the service; for us location, cleanliness and service are key to picking our hotels. Let me assure you, The Kimpton Vividora had impeccable service. We were always greeted with a smile and kind salutation when encountering any staff member. The concierge was ALWAYS helpful with restaurant or bar suggestions, advice for when to visit local sights, co-ordinating taxis, etc. The rooftop staff were always friendly and social. The service there can be a bit slower, but I am positive that if we told them we were in a hurry, they would accommodate. However, we were on vacation and were in no rush so it didn’t bother us at all. There were 1-2 bartenders and two servers working serving roughly 25-30 guests, and they were doing just fine. This is not a knock to say they were “understaffed” by any means, just a reminder to put things in perspective! We spent a whole afternoon by the pool enjoying cocktails and food, and both were wonderful! Yes, the pool is tiny, with maybe 14 loungers, but you’re in the Gothic Quarter at a boutique hotel, that is to be expected. In summary, funky hotel in a perfect location with amazing service. Clean, modern, smaller rooms, food and cocktails great. Book this hotel.
