Hotel Continental Barcelona

Let me start by saying that this hotel was definitely not what I expected and I’ll explain in details so that anyone that books after reading this knows the reality of things: - At our arrival at the hotel, the first thing was the elevator broken. Supposed to be fixed the following days but at the end wasn’t fixed for 5 days, at our departure wasn’t fixed still. Causing people to arrive exhausted at the lobby, carrying their luggages for 4 floors. I wonder what an elder person or someone with a physical disability could do in this situation. - When you enter the hotel, corridors and part of the room smells very unpleasant. The humidity is everywhere and it’s just very displeasing to enter or exit with this smell. - “The key policy situation”. You have to return/pick up your room key to the lobby every time you exit or enter the hotel. We experience the situation of a gentleman that did not really remembered his room number and was asking for random numbers and they just gave him the key without confirming his name. I believe that if it’s a must to deposit the key at the lobby then a name/ surname or ID check to pick up the key should be done before giving away room keys to possible strangers. - There is no toothpaste, flip flops or personal use amenities that normally a hotel should provide. Just the sign you can see below, I guess they sell at the lobby. - The 24h buffet has a very limited selection and is the same for breakfast with some extra items.( picture above). Mind that almost all the food for the buffet is kept cold, so you will have to reheat it in the microwave. - Being a very old hotel you can hear the water pipes all night long. Good things about our stay at the hotel; - location( close by the metro and bus stations) - Right on the Ramblas - The toilet of our room was renovated and pleasant. - The bed is comfortable although I pointed out I was on my honeymoon when booking the room and they gave us 2 separate beds.

Excellent location and buffet 24h available. The hotel is a bit old but good value for the price.

Very helpful & courteous staff. They help us on enhancing the snacks provided & cleaning the tables. They advised on the food. They provided guidance on airbus service, how best to take & details. They provided a table for breakfast with an excellent street view.

We stayed here both before and after a cruise. The hotel is very well located on the Ramblas (easily walkable to Old Town), with a taxi stand right outside the door. The receptionist, Viviane, was a delight each time we saw her, always helpful and cheerful. The hotel is showing a little wear, but everything is neat and clean and the A/C is great. We loved the 24 hour availability of free snacks and beverages - it was a godsend after flying from California, arriving at hotel around 9PM and too tired to go out. The coffee was superior to what we got on our upscale ship! The rooms have balconies overlooking the outdoor dining area. Tip: there is a hidden little balcony with table in a room just to the right of the reception desk - the balcony looks right out on to the ever-exciting Ramblas, perfect for people watching while having that morning breakfast. We were a bit worried that we might have a problem getting a taxi to the airport at 3AM, but there were two of them sitting at the taxi stand outside the hotel on our departure day.

Bit old, but very clean and comfort. Great position to walk around. Very secure.

Very nice and centered hotel for accommodation in Barcelona. Close to everything and highly recommended.
