The Bowes Hotel

A simply amazing stay. Firstly Ian and his team helped us remedy an error made by ******* on booking rooms at the Bowes hotel. Really friendly and interpersonal staff along with extensive knowledge of the area and further beyond particularly Hadrian's Wall path along with the Roman Museums and Forts. The food served was amazing aswell, better than some other independent restaurants, also the Thai-cakes are a must try! The room is clean and tidy with a great buffet breakfast to boot, they also make lunch for your journey ahead. If you are staying at Bardon Mill, this is the place to be, just a walk away from the station that connects back to Newcastle. Friendly neighbourhood and locals that shares stories from their journeys and also fellow travellers from around the world mostly doing the Hadrian's Wall walk. I cannot fault this wonderful and cosy hotel and pub that is the Bowes Hotel!

The Bowes Motel is a charming old inn in Barton Mill, and the staff makes you feel like family. They modified the bedding to make us more comfortable, were willing to make substitutions on the menus, packed us lunches and offered us lifts to places we needed to go. Dinner there was superb. The place has character and the people were wonderfully helpful and accommodating

Lovely quiet location. Bar staff were friendly and efficient, felt welcome. Had a meal in the bar and it was good value for money, and tasty. Toilers modern, well appointed and spotlessly clean. If you are in the area pop in for a pint or some food, you will enjoy the experience.

We stayed at the Bowes Hotel for one night whilst visiting nearby Vindolanda. and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Rooms very pleasant, clean and well equipped. Good shower pressure and nice and hot. Hotel itself has a lively bar and restaurant area, but any noise does not seem to carry to the room area. Menu choice is pub grub but a good selection with pretty much something for everyone and very tasty. Portions are generous and reasonably priced. Breakfast in the morning was enjoyable and relaxed, with a continental selection of pastrys and cereals. The cooked breakfast was really good quality and again, very generous. And for me the most important factor is the staff, who were friendly, attentive, accommodating and a total asset to the establishment. Overall, good value for money and a really enjoyable experience. Would absolutely stay again and would recommend.

Stayed here with my husband 28th feb for three days ,could not have picked a nicer place to stay. The room was spotless and fresh , the staff made us so welcome ,nothing was a problem. Good choice of food cooked fresh and was piping hot . I would like to give an extra shout out to the house keeping lady (apologies I have forgotten your name) you are a real trouper hard working a true people’s person ,Thankyou .

My wife and I were made so welcome by staff and locals. The food was a real surprise. Really beautifully presented, great portion sizes and catered for all sorts of dietary needs. The cooked breakfast the following day was beautifully done and enormous! Our room was really comfy, lacked nothing and was spotlessly clean. We will definitely go back.

We had a two night stay at the end of October. The Station bedroom was very comfortable and had an excellent en suite. The full English breakfast was very good and plentiful. I cut down on some of the items for the second morning. Evening meals were also very good. Home made chicken pie was delicious and some of the best chips we've had for a while. All the staff were very good and made you feel welcome. Location is ideal for visiting Hadrian's Wall and the excellent Vindolanda fort and museum. The free guided tour really brings it to life.

Spent an enjoyable night here whilst walking countryside around Hadruans Wall. Friendly pub / hotel with comfortable rooms and good evening meal (at reasonable price) and breakfast.

We loved this spot. Stated for 3 nights, could have stayed a week or more. Beautiful area. Comfortable large room, friendly staff, delicious food, great little shop and tearoom across the street.
